my husband is a smoker and the best I can get him to do is to stand by the back door as he smokes. Half the time, the smoke blows right back in so I place this on a wall outlet nearby. It seems to work because I took it down for a couple of weeks and I started noticing when he was smoking while I was in other rooms of the house. I believe it is capturing a significant amount of the smoke and filtering it very well.
