If you read your manual, it recommends replacing this every year. We had our vacuum for two years before replacing this. Now the vacuum works back up to original specs-you can't smell dust any more, and it sucks harder.You probably want to replace the pleated filter after a year or two also, no matter how good you are at cleaning it.
