SoleusAir Energy Star 45 Pint Dehumidifier

I purchased from menards for 149.99 on sale a few days ago to replace an old reliable noisy westinghouse. This unit is very quiet in comparison and does an excellent job of removing water. I called customer service 2 times on just simple questions and both times I actually was able to talk to a real person within a mater of minutes. Customer service was extremely helpful and actually was from the USA. Great service! The owners manual is very short, simple and well done. I am very pleased and I have done a lot of research on other units. This unit is excellent.

A1401B Bionaire Air Cleaner Dual Filter Cartridge

We have this Bionaire air cleaner from forever and did not want to replace it but found locating the correct size filters hard to do. Luckily they were on this site and we were able to put the air cleaner back in use. We bought two just in case. It works great.

Hamilton Beach True Air 05920 Blue Humidifier Filter

I have been using this humidifier for 5 years. Here's how I keep the filter fresh.

I fill the tank at night before bed, run it on low, and by the next night the tank is empty and the filter is all dry. I flip the filter, fill the tank, and start over again. If I need to add water more frequently (on a dry day or if I want higher humidity), I still have to LET THE FILTER DRY OUT and FLIP the filter BEFORE I add new water.

So, I run it 24/7, and it lasts about 7 to 8 weeks because

(1) I let the humidifier run until the filter is bone DRY for EACH tank of water.

(2) I flip the filter every time I put a new tank of water on it.

(3) I put the tank and tray in the dishwasher once every 7 to 10 days.

These are what the instructions say to do, and I have found it WORKS! I need two or three filters per season.

If you keep adding water without letting the tray and filter dry, your filter will get stinky and yellow in 2 weeks and you will be unhappy!

If you find the filter is soggy, let the humidifier run until it dries out. Make sure there is no water in the tank and tray, and it will dry out faster in the humidifer (20 30 minutes on high?) than in the air.

Don't be unhappy: let the filter dry out between tanks.

[New Year Deal] Clean-Plus Portable Powerful 12AMP Canister Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

Initially I was hesitant to buy this because I had never heard of the brand name or seller before and couldn't find much on them when I searched. However, I did find some information that said Clean-plus was a new company to the US and has been in business many years overseas. The price was very affordable, so I took a chance, and I'm glad I did.

I absolutely love this little powerful vacuum. I have a thing for vacuums and have owned many, but none have included ALL my favorite features like the Clean-plus.

At 12amps, it is just as powerful as my Kirby vacuum, but weighs a whole lot less! The telescoping wand, onboard attachments, and retractable power cord are very convenient for those of us who want to get the job done quickly. The vacuum stores neatly and takes up minimal space too. There were extra filters in the box, too. One HEPA filter and 2 smaller filters for the air intake and exhaust around the motor. I've never had a vacuum come with extra filters before. This is a very quiet vacuum too.

The only thing that isn't great is that it doesn't clean the throw rugs very well because there is no rolling brush for carpets. But that's ok with me, as my whole house has wood floors.

Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Upright Vacuum

After going through 2 dysons, a bissel, and a Hoover platinum bagless in the last 8 years, I decided my problem was not all my cats, dogs and messy childrenbut the "bagless" vac instead. I did this get version at Sears since I could test drive it there. I have never had a vac with so much suction!!! I test drove the kenmores, dysons and new LGbut there was no comparison. You don't need an self propulsion on this model b/c once you turn it on, the suction is so great it moves itself across the floor. I know it's not super fancy like the othersbut it's nice to have the brush on/off as a foot pedal on the base you can press easily and it's easy to just drop the bag out when it's full. Great job Hoover!

16x24x1 ULTRA 800 Allergen Reduction Air Filter 6-Pack

While the filtration of this filter is fine, I am quite disappointed that the dimensions stated in the product title are not the true dimensions. Yes, I do find now that in the further description that it states the dimensions given are "nominal" and that the ACTUAL dimensions are 0.5 inches less than the stated. But in ACTUALITY, the measurements are even smaller than that! I find that my so-called "16x24" filters (that they say are "15.5x23.5") are really 15 11/32 inches by 23 11/32 inches.

Maybe it's an "industry standard" to not use the exact dimensions stated, but I don't think so since 3M Filtrete doesn't do so. And you know what? If the measurement is less than 0.5, you have to ROUND DOWN!!

While I COULD order from these guys again and get the right size this time, I have no plan to do so.

Dyson DC24 Ball Multi Floor Upright Vacuum Cleaner

I have heard a lot of good things about Dyson, but have always shied away from Dyson prices, so when I saw this refurb model available on Amazon for about half the price, I decided to take a chance. I have to say I was not disappointed. I was surprised at how compact this particular model is. When I took it out of the box I was a little skeptical that it would have the power I needed. I am pleased to report it has done a remarkable job. I got dust and dirt out of my berber area carpets that I didn't even know was there. I live in a NY brownstone and so high ceilings are particularly challenging to clean. This Dyson also has a great extending wand that makes getting dust bunnies off those high ledges a breeze. The rolling ball makes tight corners easier to navigate and I also like that the Dyson bagless system. It allows for easy disposal of debris with each use. No more dusty smelly bags to wait to fill up before throwing away. For someone like me with dust allergies, that alone makes it worth it's weight in gold. The Dyson is also so compact that it fits right into my utility closet with plenty of room for other household necessities. If you are considering this vacuum cleaner over some of the clunkier versions that are way cheaper, I would say give Dyson a shot. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and this was well worth the money.

Holmes HAP242-UC HEPA Type Desktop Air Purifier

I've owned mine for about 5 years, and I love it. I was surprised to see so many negative comments from other reviewers. If I may add my two cents to the discussion:

* This machine works great as an air purifier for small/medium bedrooms. It is designed to remove dust and other allergens from the air, and it does so quite well in my opinion. It's not meant to clean the air in the whole house. It's not meant to remove strong odors like stinky pets, dirty diapers, etc. That's what an odor eliminator is for. (I use a Hamilton Beach 04271R TrueAir Plug-Mount Odor Eliminator next to the litter box, and I can't complain.) An odor eliminator contains a carbon filter than neutralizes bad smells. A HEPA air purifier contains a filter of thickly folded fibrous paper that strains tiny particles out of the air. The two devices have completely different purposes and methods.

* Yes, you do have to replace the filter periodically. I run my unit continuously on the low setting and have to replace the filter about once a year. Target usually sells them in two-packs or three-packs for a good price.

* It needs to be wiped down with a damp cloth every couple of weeks because the outer casing gathers dust and lint. In my experience it does NOT, as other users have commented, get filthy. I supposed it might if you never cleaned it. The fact that it attracts dust means it's working.

* It's almost silent on the low setting. Medium is audible but not intrusive. The high setting is almost as loud as a dust buster. I've found the low setting to be sufficient for small bedrooms.

I hope this helps.

14x18x1 (Actual Size) Accumulair Gold 1-Inch Filter

I used to have to run around every 3 months in search for 3-M filter in this size (14x18x1). However, I could not find any in December 2012 when I need to change the filter. Fortunately, I found this product here at Amazon. The 4-pack shipment came quickly, without damage and the filter fits perfectly! I am now set for 1 year before having to purchase filters again... Saving time, gas and having filters readily on hand when I need them. Thank you for making this product available!

Update (28-Apr-2013)

After 3 months of use, the filter was still as white as when I put it in 3 months ago! A $1.00 would have caught more dirt than this filter! I have now bought enough 3M filters to ensure the air I breath is clean! I tried to look up an address to write or a telephone numb to call the company but I could not locate it anywhere, including their website! In other words, their warranty does not seem to worth a dime!

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND!!!

Go Berkey Kit - Portable Water Filter

I have had my portable "Go" Berkey for several months now and take it with me everywhere I travel. Hotels in the US, friends houses, foreign destinations everywhere! In fact, I like it so much, that I then purchased the "Big Berkey" that holds 2.25 gallons. I was so impressed with this, that I then purchased the Colossal "Crown" Berkey that holds 6.5 gallons! My 6 member family is happy with all three and they are an indispensable part of our lives. We emphasize copious water consumption and these the most logical, efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing this.

We have missionary friends in primitive areas of India and Africa who have also found the Berkey system to play a critical role in their lives. Everyone is happy with its performance.

Regarding those who say it "leaks", I can authoritatively say that the spigot only leaks for those who don't know how to "screw a lid on tight" or don't know how to properly connect a hose onto a faucet. The only "leak" issue that potential purchasers will need to be prepared for, is that it can be overfilled, causing the water to leak out between the upper and lower chambers.

Obviously, if the upper chamber is overfilled, it will cause the lower chamber to overfill, resulting in a overflow between the two. This is only a problem for those who are unprepared.

Screw on the spigot well and don't overfill, and you won't have any problems.

This is truly a professional product, that is NOT just a water filter it is a very sophisticated water purifier. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very, very well. It is exceptionally well built and performs flawlessly.

Don't be misled by those who are misinformed and don't know the basic fundamentals of how to screw on a faucet. I now own three of them and have no regrets.

It's operation is simple. It's performance is stellar. It's quality is unrivaled. And the end product is truly life saving!

Buy it with confidence. Use it with unbridled trust. Foreign workers all over the world depend on it and you can too!

pureguardian H2500 100-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier

Love everything about the way this Humidifier works. Very fine mist. Extremely quiet. If I were to change anything about this humidifier, it would have a way to fill the water chamber from the top. It is a little bit of a pain to have to take the tank off, turn it upside down before getting it too far away from the unit so you don't drip water all over the floor or furniture, find a sink deep enough to be able to fill it to the top, then haul the now heavy reservoir back to the base unit, then flipping it back over the unit to install back on the base. It would be so much easier to have a top fill and just bring the pitcher of water to the unit.

Nordic Pure 16x25x1M12-12 MERV12 AC Furnace Air Filter

My order arrived yesterday. I took one out, of the box, and held it up in the sunlight. It is easy to see that this is well made, and made of quality materials. I have purchased many HVAC filters before (good and bad). I have no doubt that these are as good as any I have used. P.S. I bought these on-line because my size is hard to find.

SPT WA-1010E 10,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

The idea of a portable AC is great. The Sunpentown machine itself is great, it really churns out cool air. The problems with the design in my opinion, which any potential buyer needs to be aware of, are the following:

1) the exhaust pipe going from the machine to the window is not insulated, so it actually becomes very very hot when the machine is operating at full bore. It is not hot enough to pose a hazard when touched, but it actuallly re-heats the room on the way to the window. Overall the room does cool down but there is an inherent inefficiency in the way the room is cooled on one side of the machine then partially re-warmed on the other. Commercial units I've seen utilize an insulated pipe as exhaust.

2) The window mounting supplies for the exhaust pipe are a complete joke, a real slap in the face to the consumer. What is needed is something rigid which can be sized to the window frame. The company supplies a piece of flexible foam to be cut to fit. It barely stays upright in the window frame. Handy people might want to cut themselves a piece of plywood or plexiglass instead.

The company has a potentially wonderful product. They need to supply a better (insulated) exhaust, and more realistic supplies for the window mount.

IRobot Roomba 4299 Discovery

I've been a Roomba user for more than 3 years, so I know the benefits of a little automated vacuum. However we had three primary complaints that iRobot has addressed in this new version:

1. Inconvenience of coming home to a dead battery

2. Difficult to clean

3. Noisy

4. Could not focus on dirtier areas; only cleaned randomly.

1. We have gotten into the habit of, as we are walking out the door, putting the Roomba to work. However, we always used to have the problem of coming home to Roomba with a dead battery (inevitably it would die in the worst spots, like under our bed just out of reach). Then we would have to plug him in to our charger (which we had to shell out sixty bucks for) and wait for two hours to use him again. That was complaint one for the old version.

iRobot has fixed the battery issue on the Discovery. The fast charger (which we had to pay for before) is now built in. Secondly, and what has proven to be my favorite new feature of the new Roomba, the little vacuum automatically finds his docking station when his battery is about dead. I do have two recommendations on this note, however. The docking station appears to work just like a virtual wall, Roomba doesn't know that it is there unless it crosses its path, so you make sure that it is in a wide open room where Roomba is sure to cross its path in its waning minutes of power. Secondly, now you have to be extra sure to Roomba-proof the room so that he doesn't get stuck. If he's stuck he won't be able to find his way back to the charger.

2. The new version has gotten much easier to clean, especially the main brush. All the pieces now pop in and out of place easier and there are no screws to remove any of the pieces that need cleaning. This has proven to be a huge benefit.

3. The Discovery is noticeably quieter than the older versions, especially on tile surfaces.

4. The new line of Roomba Floorvacs comes with sensors that can detect dirt. That was the first thing we tested when we got our Discovery. I had pieces of Styrofoam broken into small pieces and it detected it and automatically performed a spot clean on that area. Then I put him in the kitchen where I had accidentally dumped a bag of cereal on the floor and then managed to step on it...Roomba focused on that area and cleaned up every little crumb.

I love my Roomba. I 100% recommend that you get one. I bought mine at a local store in the mall and had to return my Pro Elite version 4 times before I finally got one that wasn't buggy. Then, under the warrantee, after my fourth one went on the fritz I was able to upgrade to the Discovery for free. So far after 2 weeks, the Discovery has been bug-free.

Nevertheless, because of the many issues that I have had in the past, and as with any new and emerging technology, buy it where you can purchase an extended warrantee and easily return defective devices.

Notwithstanding, buy a Roomba. Even though my wife and I never have time to clean our floors have been spotless since we got our Roomba.

I hope this helps.

Mr. Heater MH75KT Forced Air Kerosene Heater

My heater arrived yesterday. One of the warmer days we've had. But I wanted to use it anyway. It works nicely, BUT IT IS LOUD. My air compressor can not even drown out the noise, but I will get used to it as I do wear ear protection when I operate the machines in my shop. The thermostat controlled shutdown and start-up is a plus.

Berkey BL4X2-BB Light Water Filtration System

Christchurch was recently rocked by a series of two major unrelated quakes. The Sep 4, 2010 7.1 quake did a lot of damage but the 6.3 of Feb 22, 2011 was much closer and shallower and destroyed most of the business district. My home was in the hardest hit Eastern suburbs along the Avon River. Since these quakes began we had almost 1700 aftershocks. My house is still standing although most of my neighbors are not. I had the foresight to buy a Berkey 8 months before the quakes began. My initial thought was that I did not need to store any water as I could take it from the river across the street to purify. But the day of the first quake all the water in the river disappeared and came up a liquefaction in the road and property. The only water left in the river was a white sludge which would have clogged any purifier. I was able to get some municipal water and use the Berkey to purify that. It has been in constant use since the quakes began. Although the city says the water is safe, several friends have reported strange infections they attribute to the water. So, I will continue to purify the water and have not had any of these problems. The water tastes wonderful and makes a drop at a time but fairly quickly. My only complaints are that the instructions were not clear how the washers on the tap go on (they are not symmetrical) so I had a few leaks the first time I used it. Also, the device is called "Berkey Light" so I assumed it was the model that has the LEDs built in to illuminate it at night; it does not. That model is called the Berkey Light LED. The use of the word Light is misleading. Now I wish I could have had the model with the LEDs as power was off for a considerable time. The device looks a bit top heavy and looks unstable but so far it has not fallen over in some large aftershocks. Maybe the company can invent a device to secure it. During the latest quake I didn't have water for over one month. This device is a lifesaver and I am purchasing extra filters for it just in case Planet X shows up one day in the future...
