I can hardly feel the air flow. The gauges told me to clean the filters but they were no way dirtier than with my Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Cleaner. I hate to return things so this one is a keeper for the price.
I've never seen a filter for home use, as well made as what Austin Air Systems puts out. I use 2 Healthmate Jr's in the room where my 2 large parrots reside.(The only reason for having 2 Jr's vs 1 larger filter is that I got both used.)I ordered a new filter for the 2nd filter I had just purchased, knowing it was likely the original.Was extremely pleased in a very short time as to how well this system works (with a known new filter in service)With the feather dander a cockatoo creates, any kind of air filter has it's work cut out for it, and having the Austin units pretty much eliminated ANY dander/feather dust settling anywhere except IN the Austin filter. Makes cleaning the room less of a chore now,with dusitng being just a slight go over.
A IQAir HealthPro Plus helps with new furniture off-gassing in the living room while a Sharp FP-P40CX + Blueair 403 SmokeStop combo does the same in the master bedroom. The lack of electronic controls (403 versus the 450E) means improved durability. As far as I am concerned, the more durable a device is, the lower the overall cost of ownership as warranty claims require that the owner cover shipping costs to the factory. The 403 is the bang-for-the-buck model in the Blueair inventory. The SmokeStop filter with impregnated carbon granules is a great improvement over the standard HEPASilent by providing both lightweight multigas and odor filtration. CADR 240 means that it should be good for rooms up to 240 sqft (regardless of manufacturer claims) through the life of the filter (as ACH declines due to clogged media). Let the unit run 24/7, else cover it when not in use to prevent the accumulation of dust on the exposed internals. Periodically clean the fan with compressed air and vacuum the intake grill/ion brush region/housing floor regularly, regardless of the presence of accumulated dust. Because the filters (made in the USA) are not exactly cost effective (versus the cost of the unit itself), I run a smaller filtration unit (Sharp FP-P40CX) in the opposite corner of the room so that filter media changes can be extended to one year (YMMV, depends on your IAQ). I prefer the single filter cartridge of the 400 series units to that of the triple filter setup found in the 500 and 600 series. And unlike the 500 and 600 series models which intake air from the bottom of the unit, the 400 series models are better suited for placement on carpeted flooring. The Blueair 403 is assembled in China (I have no problem with that) from parts procured from Germany, Sweden and the USA.
Was gonna buy new vacuum here on Amazon until this filter popped up on my suggestion list. I thought to give it a try since it's pretty cheap. My vac wasn't giving much suction at all. No amount of cleaning of the old filter was helping. Wasn't even picking up loose dirt anymore. After putting this filter in, the suction skyrocketed to brand new power again. From not being able to pickup loose dirt to actually lifting up ~heavy objects again depending on its shape and "grab-ability".
I have been using this humidifier for 5 years. Here's how I keep the filter fresh.
This is a bottle of citric acid (the stuff that makes lemons sour) with a wetting agent that helps dissolve the minerals (scale, calcium carbonate) that deposit on the evaporator (the moving white plastic finned drum) of the AIRWASHER. Simply fill the bottom housing with fresh water, pour the entire contents (8 oz), turn to low setting; after 2 hours, dump out the water that now has loosened scale, wipe any remaining scale and don't forget to get the stuff on the bottom of the fan. No smell like the vinegar I used to use. Not harsh like "lime-away" bathroom cleaners. Our local water is hard and during the summer, molds (black and red) can bloom.
Works great. It's a taller than I expected... a bit large for my kitchen counter. We bought it because we found we were throwing out so much coffee and wasting money. The pot has helped keep coffee fresh and hot for several hours, so we aren't throwing coffee/money down the drain. If you are one to throw out old coffee because it tastes burnt or is cold, the pot will pay for itself in no time. If the coffee drinkers in your household wake up at different hours, this pot is the perfect solution to not having to make another pot.
This machine is well designed. Easy to use. I would say maybe a bit louder than some of the others on the market; however if you look closely some of the others don't cover pets. Yes, pets. I noticed that a lot of them would filter cat dander. Also, I wanted something that would address specifically mold. This does the trick. I can tell the house is cleaner and have had guest comment that the house doesn't smell like musty dog anymore (though I didn't know it did).
I was looking for the clear lens. I saw the picture on amazon showing this clear lens and ordered but I was shipped a translucent one. Horrible false advertising by amazon. If I wanted a translucent one I would have bought that off eBay for half the price but I was specifically looking for the clear one as the picture suggests.
Finding the right vacuum has made me feel a lot like Goldilocks. I have hardwood floors with fringed area rugs. I also have two cats, a child, and lupus, which comes with arthritis all the time, chronic fatigue and pain, and a clog every vacuum known to man case of hair fall out every time I get a flare.
Where I live we have had a few notifications from our local water department of elevated levels of arsenic; NOT GOOD. So I've had it in the back of my mind to get an RO system for some time;
I have a 21 year old stove and was worried about getting a replacement filter as there is no way to do so locally but the filter arrived fast and is better than the original filter.
I have used this model for years. I have one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. Reliable, quiet enough to use at night, and has never broken down. I have asthma, and it is a life saver when smoke and odors from cooking threaten my breathing. Small enough to take with me when I travel. It's useful for removing odors and dust from the air. I really depend on it. Reasonable price, and totally reliable. The filter is easy to change, (you can extend it's useable life by vacuuming it!) The prefilter just rinses out, and the case wipes clean easily. The only thing that I don't like is that there is no way to clean the fan blades inside.
I received this item just before Christmas 2009. Our house was so dry I was slowly pruning. At 1500 sq.ft. on the main floor with 9 foot ceilings it keeps us quite comfortable and does the job. Have been running it straight since early December and no mechanical problems. Be aware of the following:
Bought this vacuum on sale, so that helped out. I never thought I would have spent so much on a vacuum! Bought a Eureka pet model vacuum last year, and it was the WORST vacuum purchased. Did not pick up much, and ended up picking things like lose carpet fibers by hand.
I have bought these filters before and the baking soda was covered on one side of the filter. This time only half of the one side of the filters on all 3 boxes are covered with baking soda. In my opinion these particular ones that I bought are rejects. I believe that that should have been stated when purchasing. I'm not really happy with this purchase.
The reason I bought this item was because I thought I was going to receive what the picture shows: a filter with its ring (the fabric piece). Instead I only received the filter. What in the world do they put a picture with both items if they're only going to send one? I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED... I THINK IT IS VERY WRONG THAT I DIDN'T GET WHAT I PAID FOR!
Is there anywhere to buy the old filters without the blue wrapping.
