Winix 119110 Ultimate Replacement Filter

Paid $100 for this thing. I used the original filter for 2 years straight which was a mistake. When I replaced it with this one the air flow significantly increased.

Change this about once a year and you should be good. don't forget to clean the prefilter every couple of months to extend the longivity of the main filter.

Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

I've read all of the reviews for this model, V-5100-NS and most of the reviews of its sister model, V-5100-N.

I think it's clear that without at least once weekly maintenance -IE, a full cleaning, probably with diluted white vinegar to help remove buildup this unit will eventually fail.

Is that the manufacturer's error?? No way!

A basic understanding of an atomizer, otherwise known as a nebulizer, actually functions will explain this.

The little metal plate at the bottom of this humidifier agitates the molecules of the water, along with... ALL OF THE DISSOLVED AND SUSPENDED SOLIDS IN THE WATER!

By contrast, a hot humidifier uses a heating element to raise the water's temperature high enough to cause the water to switch phases and become steam.

Since steam is really bad at carrying dissolved or suspended particles of anything it, all the minerals in your water are left behind on the heating element.

That is the white or colored gunk you will see on a typical hot steam generating humidifier.

This does not occur with ultrasonic humidifiers like the V-5100-NS because everything in the water is atomized. Everything it is agitated so much that it rips away from its adjacent molecules and becomes an ultra-fine mist.

Any and all contaminates in your tap water will be atomized and sprayed all over the place -this is how the humidifier works. It is not a design flaw.

It's important to note that in some cities, the PPM or parts-per-million of dissolved solids can be has high as 500 PPM or more -this might not seem like much, but at those levels you will be atomizing a lot of interesting minerals, with unknown effects.

So, if you want to use this product you are pretty much stuck using very filtered water (NOT just a Brita, I would recommend a decent reverse-osmosis system to really help lower the PPM) or just buying distilled water, which is actually very inexpensive if you buy in bulk. Do not buy distilled water at the grocery story -it'll likely be marked up a lot.

No humidifier is perfect, and all methods of creating a mist for use in raising the relative humidity of a space will have problems with water contaminants, unless you are using absolutely pure distilled water. This is a matter of physics and solubility, not some problem with the technology being used to generate the water mist.

Lastly, I've been using the model V-5100-NS for a while now and I have been very satisfied with it. It generates a very consistent stream of cool mist, and the fan is indeed very quiet. I've owned many other models of humidifiers, and this is absolutely the quietest by far. Could I sleep in the same room with it?

Hoover Presto 2-in-1 Cordless Stick Vac

The design thinking that went into this product can be summed up with this example: there's a light to tell you when the vacuum is on, but no light to tell you it's seated properly in the charger and the battery is charging.

The only use i can think of for the light to tell you the vacuum is on would be a deaf person not currently touching the vacuum. That seems like a pretty small target audience.

However, a light to confirm charging would be very useful considering it's actually a bit of a pain to get the vacuum to rest properly in the charging cradle. It involves using one hand to position it while using the other hand (or a foot, if you're feeling adventurous) to hold what the product manual refers to as the 'nozzle' out of the way.

Also, you have to remove the hand vac from the stick-vac-attachment to empty the dust bin, which is pretty small since it's designed to fit on a hand-vac, and thus awfully inconvenient.

It has enough suction to be a standard hand vac. When working as a stick vac, it does okay on hardwood floors but is nearly impossible to maneuver on carpet, even extremely low pile area rugs. It's also much heavier than other stick vacs i've used.

If you really don't have the space or money to have a hand vac for spot cleaning and a stick vac for quick cleaning on hard floors, this product might be useful. However, as is so often the case, what probably seemed like such a clever idea in the corporate office ends up being pretty frustrating in reality. A decent hand vac with the option to click into a heavy stick vac adaptor just ends up being a decent hand vac and a shoddy stick vac, less than the sum of its parts.

Whynter Eco Pure Room Air Purifier

My wife and I were looking for an air purifier/filter due to using an older wood stove (which is on the way out). We let this quiet purifier run for a week and barely noticed it was on and the place was noticeably cleaner in air quality.

14911 Sears Kenmore Humidifier Wick Filter

These are not true Kenmore filters. The real Kenmore filters are way better. I like saving a buck as much as the next guy,and i always shop for the lowest price whenever i can,but this filter is junk. On rare occasions,it pays to get the original parts,THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES. You even have to be careful when you buy these from Sears. Buy them straight from SEARS.COM , and not from the PARTS department. The generic filters don't soak up water very well, the real Kenmore filters will draw water throughout the entire filter, making them 80% more effective.

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Triple 10" x 5.0" Water Filter System

I bought this Crystal Quest 8 stage Triple device and have it connect to my whole house. the device is working fine have not decreased the water pressure at all (something that you need to be careful when selecting a whole-house water purifier.). I'm still confused with the filtering system and what and when I should buy filters. I was also happy with the seller "Up North Sales LLC". The unit was delayed by a few days so they emailed me and gave me credit even though I did not mind! I would shop from them again (next house or filters). *** I noticed that under product description, there's now a good description for the filters but I wished the had included the part numbers!

BestAir 1T-6 Humiditreat Extra Strength Humidifier Water Treatment 32 oz.

I live in the Las Vegas Desert with some of the worst water quality. My Vicks Humidifier is a must but the water causes the filer to build up with what is probably a colorful mixture of minerals. So far this is my analysis. It does seem to slow down the filter calcification that I used to scrape almost weekly. But that unnecessary pink dye makes this product to where you must handle it as if it were bleach. It stains everything including the machine its used in. I accidentally knocked the bottle over resulting in a hard time cleaning a difficult stain on my carpet and not much had spilled. Ill use this up but most likely will never buy it again because of the dye. Instead I'll search for another product with the same active ingredients but clear in color. The spill was my fault 100% but I can't imagine what's in there that made the color settle so quickly.

Sunpentown AC-3000I Magic Clean HEPA Air Cleaner with Ionizer

Bought the AC-3000I for a 10x12 room that gets ample amounts of sun throughout the day, which in turn makes it a favorite for my two dogs. With the combination of sun and dogs comes a significant amount of dust and pet dander. It is, in my opinion, the ideal situation for an "air purifier".

Upon coming home for work, there would literally be a layer of dust and dog hair confined to this space. My hope was that by adding the AC-3000I the dust and dander would be minimized. Expectations were low and I was prepared to accept any kind of improvement as justification of the cost. My first attempt at using the AC-300I on the "low" setting showed absolutely no results. Okay, so maybe this kind of environment justifies cranking it up to "high" (which is significantly louder). Again, there wasn't one bit of difference and this was after 10 hours of use. In fact, you could watch the dust and pet dander particles literally swirl around the room from the purifier fan, but absolutely nothing was begin collected. NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH!

I decided to take a look at the filter to see if perhaps it was clogged or something. Everything was in order so I decided to experiment. I noticed when placing my hand on the "intake" filter area that there is hardly (and that's being generous) any suction on this unit. You'd think with all the air the fan puts out, you'd notice some kind of suction. So I collected a dust bunny to see how close to the unit it had to be to cling to the filter. Try about 3 inches, otherwise the dust would simple fall the floor or spin around the room into oblivion.

The bottom line is this. If you're in the market for something that actually cleans the air, look elsewhere. All this thing does is blow air.

20x30x5 (19.75x29.75x4.38) MERV 11 Honeywell Aftermarket Grill Filter

I was very disappointed with this product. First off, the description says that it is a Honeywell filter. Nowhere on the filters was the name of Honeywell even mentioned. Secondly, the cardboard portion of the filters was so flimsy (especially when compared to the REAL Honeywell filter that I currently have) and the corners were smashed in and taped with white tape. Thirdly, because of the flimsy cardboard, the filter did not have a good seal around it because the cardboard was misshapen. The box they came in was not damaged so I can only assume that they sent me damaged product.

I contacted customer service right away and they issued a UPS call tag immediately. I was impressed by that but that's where the good impression ended! After contacting them (all via email) about when to expect my refund (I had already received my credit card statement with this charge on it), she told me that it had not been long enough to receive and process. I can understand that. But, when I finally got a notice that the company had received the filters, she told me that they were damaged and she would not/could not process a credit for me. She told me I had to contact UPS to make a claim. I was confused by this, since they issued the call tag and I thought that was their responsibility. I called UPS and UPS told me that they could not talk to me because the company had already filed a claim. To me, it seemed a little fishy. I emailed Filters-Now back and told her I expected a refund and she finally gave it to me. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN!!!!!! SHODDY PRODUCT AND CONFUSED CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Lennox X6661 HCC20-28 Healthy Climate HC16 Cabinet

Easy to install and so much better than the Trane CleanEffects we had installed. Our home is less than 8 years old, however we needed an air cleaner especially with my allergies. Hands down, LENNOX Healthy Climate will be installed anywhere we move. The quality is so excellent, I even had this unit installed in my parents home. They love it and their home simply feels fresh, while maintaining excellent air!

NuTone S53740000 Heater and Ventilation Fan Lens

I was looking for the clear lens. I saw the picture on amazon showing this clear lens and ordered but I was shipped a translucent one. Horrible false advertising by amazon. If I wanted a translucent one I would have bought that off eBay for half the price but I was specifically looking for the clear one as the picture suggests.

Bad job by amazon. Disappointed but what can I do. It's not worth the hassle to return and go looking again. just FYI so someone does not get duped like I did. go to ebay. Get it for half the price.

Eureka AirSpeed Bagless Upright

I was not sure about bagless vacs, so last year purchased a Hoover mini bagless vac. It worked well , then starting acting up. Since that vac was only $39, I decided to try a nicer bagless, with good reviews, and bought the Airspeed Gold bagless because it was on sale. Am I glad I did!

The Airspeed really lives up to the advertising claims! WOW, the pick-up power! It had been a week since I vacuumed my room and the carpet looked clean, but gave the vac its first whirl. The Airspeed picked up the deep hidden dust, dirt and the Arm & Hammer and Love-My-Carpet "salts" that the old vacuums left behind! It also raised up the nap/fibers of the carpet. I kept vacuuming the carpet and picked up more deep down grime. The canister was 2/3 full and showed the girt, dirt and dust. There were "dark grey" dust bunnies pulled out of the "clean carpet" from the deep hidden dirt, the carpet felt softer. So much so, that my 9-year-old daughter laid down on the just vacuumed carpet and said "Daddy, the carpet is soooo soft!"

The high traffic area in our living room carpet is less matted and cleaner. The Airspeed picked up the dark colored deep dirt and brought the color closer to the original color. The carpet is 10 years old, the vac cannot completely "restore" the carpet, but if we had had the Airspeed vacuum, the carpet would have stayed newer looking longer.

Because of allergeries, we have an allergen reducing clothes washer, use pleated filters in the AC/Furnace and change them every 2 weeks when the unit is running a lot. The Airspeed with the hepa filter is now one more tool for taking allergens out of the home; not to mention the hose reaches the return registers without having to pick up the vacuum. In the past, after changing the filters, I used a broom to knock off the dust on the registers then vacuumed under the registers.

The inter-sliding 180-degree-flip-over extension wand is a bit clunky to use, but works fine and the attachments fit on the fixed half of the wand, over the wand, and on the flip-over extension half of the wand, attachments fit on the inside of the wand's bell mouth. When vacuuming along the baseboards with the attachments, the suction pulls the dust off the top of the baseboards with just the crevice tool (usually we have had to use the dusting brush attachment). After using the crevice tool for a while, the suction pulled the extension wand and attachment tightly together and it took some effort to pull them apart--just a bit more of a stronger yank then I was expecting.

There is a ball valve "or switch", that must be turned to change from floor to hose and back again. The knob/lever is plenty big and easy to turn. So, if the vac is not picking up on the floor, check the valve position. I have done this twice myself. ;-)

Vacuum is easy to assemble. No tools are needed. The power cord kept popping out of the top holding clip. I took a black zip tie and zipped it over the top of the clip and that took care of the cord popping out. You can use twine, but the black zip tie "disappears" against the black plastic. There are built-in holders for all the attachments including the turbo nozzle (not the filter cleaning brush) and a carry handle. Since I have a single story home have not used the carry handle much.

The vacuum is 14 inches (35.6 cm) when laid flat from the floor, so will not fit under a bed, but does go under the children's bed about 10 inches (25.4 cm). However, the turbo nozzle on the extension wand should get completely under the bed.

The turbo nozzle was missing in the box and customer service is sending out a replacement. I cannot wait to try that out for cleaning under the bed and the mattresses.

There is a pet version of this vac, AS1002A, with a pet hair version of the turbo nozzle and the vac is less prone to clogging an easier to clean out according to Eureka website.

A tip, when vac is not in use, put floor height setting on high carpet. This keeps the bristles in the beater brush from getting mashed, working like new longer, and will not have to replace as often.

Dumping the canister and dusting off the main filter is best done outside or low inside a tall kitchen trashcan with a liner bag; also found that putting the canister into a plastic shopping bag and opening the canister inside the bag works well too on rainy days. Check to see there are no holes in the grocery bag first! Been there done that too! ;-D

The supplied filter brush just does not get down into the pleats of the main filter. I purchased a hair coloring brush (stiffer bristles work better) for $1 from a beauty supply store and it gets between the pleats of the filter. When you wash the filter, a slow steady flow works better to flush out the grim. If some of the "clay type dirt" clumps in the pleats, the rounded handle end of hair coloring brush "digs" out the clay clumps without putting holes in the filter. Guys, do not use your wife's or girl friend's coloring brush or you will be in the doghouse! The bristles will get a mangled and dirty.

If you are going to buy a "second" main filter for a "quick filter switch over", I would suggest purchasing a second plastic "dust cup" since it is part of the "filtering system" which you can purchase for a couple of bucks from eureka.com; which also offers a maintenance package that sends you two sets of filters a year automatically.

To get "great suction" parts have to fit together well. Putting the canister back together takes some figuring out a first few times. In addition, getting the canister assembly back into the vacuum takes a little finesse. Just take your time...the great results are worth the little extra effort. Also, found that moving the Airspeed slowly, forward and back, then criss-cross, over the carpet brings up the deep down dirt and pulls up the carpet nap/fibers the best.

From work experience, I know that when things are dirty, (like the deep down hidden dirt in the carpet,) that at the beginning the filter is going to need a lot more cleaning. However, as the carpet is vacuumed regularly, the carpet will get cleaner and the filter will need cleaning less often. Right now, I am cleaning the filter every time I use the vacuum, so do not toss out this great vacuum because you are cleaning the filter a lot at the start. Do not blame the vacuum because of an extremely dirty carpet. In fact, the first time we vacuumed the living room, which gets the most traffic in our home, the vacuum stopped sucking because the carpet was that dirty deep down. We dumped the canister and dusted off the filter and the Airspeed started working again; then finished vacuuming.

BTW, I do not work for Eureka or Hoover and do not own stock in either company. This is just my honest opinion.

8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner

It works great but putting it together was a pain in the ass, I couldn't get the accordion like extensions to stay onto the air conditioner which you have to do to seal it completely into the window and the picture on the instructions that shows you how to do it is not clearly printed so you cant make out your ass from your elbow looking at it, finally I figured it out the hard way and got it together.

Blueair 203 GO SMOKESTOP Air Purifier

I purchased this air purifier because one of my children suffers from allergies. We now run the Blueair 203 air purifier 24/7 and it really has been a remarkable aid for my son whose sniffling is almost a thing of the past and whose rashes are virtually gone!

It's very quiet so it can operated throughout the night without disturbing sleep and it's an attractive unit. So, it's quiet, it's attractive, and it works really well; for that I give it five stars! I wish I had purchased an air purifier sooner. I may even purchase another one for our living room!

LG Kompressor Pet Care Upright Vacuum

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)

This video review demonstrates the features, noise level, suction, and other aspects of the LG Luv200, a bagless vacuum cleaner obviously designed to go head-to-head with Dyson machines. Here, you'll see the Luv200 work on multiple surfaces. The only thing is lacks is a self-propelling agitator for easier movement. Unfortunately, due to the file size limitation, I had to cut a couple minutes out of my original video, so if you have a question about something that I didn't cover, just ask. UPDATE: A leading consumer magazine has rated this in its 2/2011, and the Luv200 is one of the recommended purchases in the bagless category.

Honeywell 29500 HEPA Media Filter

The description says "Genuine Honeywell Part." It is not. I have owned 3 Honeywell 50300 air purifiers for the past 5 years, and the Honeywell filters for the product have a black base and top, and black mesh on the sides. The filter being sold here has a white base and top, and white mesh on the sides. It smells bad, too, like adhesive.

The filter being sold here, according to the information contained in the box is actually an RPS product, Model E295.

Living Fresh 3500 SQF Ozone Ionizer Cleaner Ionic Air Purifier Clean Air

I just got this from UPS about 4 hours ago. After spending a month checking out home air purifiers, I settled on the idea of getting an ion generator/ ozone cleaner because it made sense.

After scanning all of the air purifiers on Amazon, I came across Living Fresh and was impressed by all of the positive customer reviews, so I ordered it last week.

It came packaged in an extremely well packaged box and it impressed me right off with its' sturdy construction and heft. The solid cherry wood and tight construction impressed. I have seen extremely similar products to this one claiming to do the very same thing and costing several hundred dollars more.

This product has clear and simple instructions. Just insert the two ceramic plates in the two slots in the back and plug it in. I set the ozone switch to the lowest setting and the negative ionizer on the high setting.

Within minutes, it changed the atmosphere throughout my bedroom. I work out with kettlebells in my bedroom and it was beginning to smell like a gym locker room and despite the fact that my sense of smell is pretty non existent, it was starting to get to even me, so I bought this. Within that first hour, it changed from stinky socks to a clean fresh smell exactly like that smell outdoors right after a rainstorm or a thunderstorm.

Within two hours, my entire house has gone through a transformation in the atmosphere. It actually smells clean and fresh. Odors and cooking smells, etc are GONE! That is truly amazing to me since I usually don't smell or discern smells easily. If I notice it, it is saying something.

I actually felt my mood improve noticeably and I LIKED IT! This is an astounding effect because I am not usually the "Mr Happy" type of guy. And, I am absolutely sure this is not some placebo effect going on. I am not open to suggestion very easily. This is the REAL DEAL!

This thing works gangbusters and it works fast.

Now, the big question for me is: How long will this product last? Will keep going one year? two years? even three years? If it can I consider that a major success since it only cost a little over $119.

I will follow the directions and clean and maintain each month and I will keep my fingers crossed!

PORTER-CABLE Bare-Tool PC18HV 18-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum

If ever there was some truth to the saying, "You get what you pay for," this is it. By the time you purchase a battery and the charger, you will have spent a lot more money than on any competing product (to my knowledge). But this thing is worth every penny, in my opinion. It's VERY strong, thanks to the 18V battery. I have no complaints about it and my wife loves it, too.

Here's a tip for saving some money and killing two birds with one stone. I ordered the Bare-tool 18-Volt Cordless vac, but I also ordered the combination bundle of a Porter-Cable 18-Volt drill with charger and TWO 18-Volt NiCd batteries. When it's all said and done, I paid only $12.00 for the drill and its carrying case, over the combined price of buying the vac, the charger and two NiCd 18-Volt batteries separately. We all know who uses the vac the most my wife but I got a two-speed, high-torque cordless drill out of the deal for just 12 bucks more!

We keep one battery on the charger and one on the vac. Best of all, when a battery reaches end-of-life, we'll only have to buy another battery, instead of buying the entire tool as is the case with most rechargeable vacs!

Enjoy!

Soiree bottle-top Wine Decanter & Aerator

The Soiree is an on-the-bottle wine aerator/decanter. It provides one-hand operation and aerates wine differently than competing products. Rather than passing the wine through a narrow chamber and injecting air into the wine, the Soiree achieves aeration by relying on the tendency liquids have to adhere to surfaceseffectively exposing much of the wine to air while pouring. In a 4-way blind tasting I conducted with 3 tasters of varying degrees of familiarity with wine, the Soiree finished first.
