24x30x1-merv 12 A/c Furnace Air Filters By Nordic Pure

These MERV 12 filters are a nice step up from the fiber filters you get in the local hardware store. They felt-like pleat really capture the dirt.

This is a huge filter, so it's hard for a piece of cardboard to remain rigid. During the summer when the humidity is higher, I've had the filter get sucked into my air handler, though I honestly think that the fault of my filter port there's no cross beam to provide support for the center of the filter. However, keep this in mind if you're buying a large filter like this.

Not much more to say the filters do their job and you throw them away every month or two. It's not a sexy part of your HVAC system, but it's an essential one.

Mammoth Pure Home Series 7 Stage HEPA Ionic Carbon TiO2 Ozone Air Purifier

My son was recently diagnosed with leukemia and as part of making the house as healthy as possible in order to minimize illness while his immune system is compromised from the cancer and the chemo, we purchased 3 Mammoth 1000 Air purifiers. We are very happy with the purchase. Not only do we believe that it has helped our son not get sick but it has managed to keep our household's seasonal allergies at bay as well. Large volumes of dust in the air which are very prevalent in the desert of Arizona not only wreak havoc on a allergy sufferers but they can harbor valley fever (coccidioidomycosis) spores and other pathogens which can be deadly for the immunocompromised. It was to eliminate these from the air that drove us to make this purchase.

The Mammoth has the benefits of having a HEPA filter and a UV sterilizer in order to kill bacteria that are passed through it. You are also able to purchase separately ozone plates. Applying an ozone plate for a brief period of time while not home, we are able to "clean" the house by dispersing ozone which is highly reactive and thus toxic to most microbes, killing them. The timer on the Mammoth can make sure that the ozone treatment is applied while we are not home and then given enough time to clear so that we are not exposed. This is a very nice optional feature which is infrequently used but a nice bonus.

The Mammoths are easy to set up right out of the box. You simply plug them in. They come with a remote which I think is silly and unnecessary. The manual, it seems, was written by someone whose first language was not English; nevertheless, it is easy enough to understand. The price is certainly right and the replacement HEPA filters and ozone plates can be obtained relatively cheaply compared to the alternatives that we've seen directly from Mammoth.

DeLonghi ECAM23210B Compact Magnifica S Beverage Center

Machine worked fantastic for about 8 months until the frother would no longer work. A call to Delonghi support (Oct '11) resulted in a seven day wait for box to ship the unit to a repair facility (Nov '11). That facility determined within a week it needed a new frother, but Delonghi took two months and never supplied the part the repairer. After 2.5 months (Jan '12) of waiting I again called Delonghi and asked that they just send me a replacement unit so that I didn't have to keep waiting. Ten days later, a replacement (refirb) unit showed up only to arrive broken (this time leaking water into the grounds tray). Initial calls to Delonghi were met with scripted "you'll need to send us the unit and wait for our evaluation..." rather than them just shipping me out a replacement immediately and my returning the defective one. Sigh. Such an excellent product when it is working. Customer service just doesn't think a $800+ product deserves better care. Delonghi should study Apple to learn how good customer service builds a strong brand.

Aireox Professional Air Purifier

I've been using Aireox air cleaners in my home and cars for about 16 years and wouldn't buy any other kind. I have severe chemical sensitivity (from an on the job incident) and they do the job for me. They are simple, easy to clean (open, vacuum the outside of the filter, replace), and quiet. Buy a new filter to replace the one inside it when you can again smell stuff that it didn't clean out of the air (about 1 year). I run mine 24/7 on low and have for 16 years straight.

The only problem that some of my older ones have had is with the switch (max setting didn't work after a while). My newest one, just purchased from Amazon, does not have that problem. It wouldn't bother me if it did because these air cleaners are the best in any case. Cleans everything out of the air (formaldehyde, mold, gasses, smoke, etc.). During the horrible fires in California a while back, I just ran my Aireox and kept the windows closed and had clean air in the house.

I highly recommend these air purifiers. I own three at home, one for my husband's office, and one for the car. The newest one replaces a 16 year old one which finally bit the big one. All my others are old and working just fine.

Whynter Eco Pure Room Air Purifier

My wife and I were looking for an air purifier/filter due to using an older wood stove (which is on the way out). We let this quiet purifier run for a week and barely noticed it was on and the place was noticeably cleaner in air quality.

18x20x1-MERV 12 A/C Furnace Air Filters by Nordic Pure

I am very pleased with the filters, and with the service provided by the supplier. I will be ordering them again from Nordic Pure when I run low. They are MERV 12 which, since my baby granddaughter has just been diagnosed with asthma, was my primary reason for changing brands.

Roadpro 12V Mini Air Purifier

Tested the negative ion output with my ion detector. My detector only registers anything above about 700,000 ions per cm3. My large, powerful home ionizer sets if off at almost 3 feet. However, this ionizer does not set it off even when the tester is nearly touching the emitter. So it's ion output at any distance, even a foot or two, is probably very low.

It certainly produces ozone. You can smell it if you put your nose to it. This would certainly reduce odors, and it also cleans the air. However, some people with bad asthma may be very sensitive to ozone.

In short, if you want the make the car smell fresher, it is good. If you want the benefits of negative ions, probably not going to get it with this device.

Honeywell HPA-150 True HEPA Tower Air Purifier

Using this unit for the past 2 weeks in a very dusty office. Ripping out and replacing the ancient carpet was not an option for me. So (after vacuuming and much cleaning of filth) I got one of these units. It has 3 speeds. Over nights and weekends I run it on "medium speed". During the day I run it at the relatively quiet "low speed" (and it make as much noise as a quiet desktop PC power fan which is not much). Air quality has improved dramatically. (Wish I had quantitative stats to back this up but I do not.) Unit is Energy Star certified.

Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Air Cleaner Model

Did a lot of research looking at larger air purifiers. Winix is getting some good reviews at the allergy specialist / clean air sites.

I picked up one from Amazon to place in our living area around 20x15 foot area.

The unit surprised me very quiet, auto speed fan and odor detection which modulates the speed of the fan along with the plasma cleaning option (off or on).

The unit will take the Winix 9000 series filter which is five stages also a big plus.

The unit is super quiet on low to medium speeds and moves a lot of air. Turbo mode moves a ton of air and naturally is more noticeable noise wise.

Great unit quality built a true winner in my book. I liked this unit so much after the first week I purchased another for the formal living area.

Very satisfied with the product.

Just a quick Update...

Going on five months now both of the 5300's are performing perfectly with no problems at all. I decided to add a Rabbit Air 421A to the living area with the 5300 in comparison the Winix is rated higher on the CADR the third level on the Winix is equal to the 421A's turbo mode.

The Rabbit Air is quieter on the higher speeds but understanding it is not delivering the volume of the Winix.

I like the filter system of the 421A but one can order the five stage Winix 9000 filter for the 5300 when the time comes for filer replacement, the odor sensor seems a bit more sensitive on the 421A vs. the 5300.

The 421A also has a dust sensor along with the odor sensor both of these work very well on the unit.

I could not be happier with the Winix I paid $149.00 for the 5300 and $350.00 for the Rabbit Air 421A my humble opinion there is not a difference in quality of clean air coming from either unit.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the 5300 one of those great finds!!!

Midea 8K BTU Portable AC

Completely unattractive design that would be ok if it was able to cool somewhat. 8000 BTUs just does not work unless you have very low expectations. The gigantic display is like some spaceship control panel. Very bizarre. Try calling manufacturer's customer service, if you're lucky enough to get someone, it can be quite comical. very very unrecommended.

Shop Fox W1746 Fine Air Filter

I usually use this either during fine sanding, or using the time-delay feature to leave it running after I leave the shop. Either way it does reduce the amount of "fines" left around the shop

I've had it a year, and with saw-dust, it appears all I need to do is blow the filter out. If I was getting gritty/greasy/oily fines in it I suspect I would have to change filters

Gonzo Odor Eliminator

I decided to purchase several pouches of volcanic rocks from a couple different vendors to see if they are all the same and whether one has an advantage over the other. I tried both the "house odors" and "pet odors" varieties. The rocks from Amazon.com seem, in essence, to be the same as from the other store except for a couple differences that are important to me. The rocks from were packaged nicely, cleanly, and were easy to open. On the other hand, the rocks from this amazon.com vendor were packaged sloppily and arrived filthy with volcanic dust. Even though I was careful, the dust got all over the place. Also, the packages were difficult to open without leaving some of the plastic and paper label attached, so they were unattractive to have around the house. I ended up having to hide them behind furniture. Another good thing about the rocks the pouches each came with a nice, separate hook to make it easy to hang them. I had never purchased from before and probably will not again (they have nothing else I want) but if you are looking into purchasing volcanic rocks, you may want to check them out. They cost more but I think it's worth it I found that I was angry at myself for not buying all of them from there. (P.S. I have absolutely no affiliation with .)

I will come back to update my review after having used the rocks around the house for a while to see how effective their odor-absorbing ability is.

Update: amazon has blocked the name of the other online store, which is fine. You can probably find it on your own it's a store that specializes in environmental "earth" products. Another good thing about it they offer closet-sized versions of the pouches. Just remember if you don't mind the mess and difficult packaging, the rocks in both products are essentially the same.

Update #2: I've had several of these packets around the house for over a week and have not noticed any difference. I thought that they may need to be "revived" so I put them all out in the sunlight for several hours, as they recommend. No improvement. I feel silly for buying so many of them at once instead of trying out one or two. I feel like I've thrown away my money. The odor I'm trying to get rid of is not even a powerful one it's subtle. So you'd think it would be easty to remove it with the rocks. I'll leave them out in the hope that, in time, they will work, but I have to admit that I'm not optimistic about it.

Sprite SL-CM-M Chrome Slim line Shower Filter

This is the second one of these we have bought. The water is better and the flow is good until the filter clogs after several months. The unit tends to leak where the two pieces come together around the filter. I wrap a lot of Teflon tape around the threads and tighten it more and it is okay. The last unit finally cracked in two after several years because I had to over-tighten it to keep it from leaking. It can be difficult to change the filter because it is hard to get leverage on the two pieces to twist them apart.

Friedrich CP18G30

I bought this to replace a thru the wall GE 15,000 btu unit that had been in place for 15 years with 0 problems but suddenly died during the recent heat wave. Due to it's age I did not explore the option of repair and went for a new unit. The existing unit had cooled the entire 1st floor of my small house with no problems and when I shut a door to divide the 1st floor it kept both the office and bedroom which are right across from each other very cool at night on a low power saver option.

This 18,000 btu should have been more powerful but does not come anywhere near the cooling power of the old GE. It does cool the the 8 x 10 office but even on the lowest temp setting & top fan speed does not really push any cool air past that room. I had used PC Richards to survey and determine needed btu's before purchase and then paid them 300$ for installation so it is not installed incorrectly the unit is just not all that it should be.

If it was not for the fact that it is a wall unit and diffcult to take out I would return it. I am so sorry I did not try to fix the old one or used Amazon to purchase a model with reviews and done the install myself. I am now in the process of using Amazon to purchase a window AC for the bedroom sine this new unit does not do the job.

This new unit is also noisy, I would have thought newer units would be quieter than a 15+ year old AC but not so, I need to have the TV very loud to hear over it. I would be fine with the noise if it cooled more than the small room it is in.

The only good thing I can say is it does have a remote which the old one did not,but the instruction book does not give any instructions on what the symbols mean on the remote. When trying to use the remote I had to do a lot of expermenting to set it manually and then check what the remote showed. It does have a timer feature but again instructions so unclear I have yet to figure it it out.

I will never buy a Friedrich again and hope this may help folks looking to replace their thru the wall AC.

Hamilton Beach 04290FS General Purpose Odor Removal Filter

These replacement filters are the all-purpose ones designed to go into the Febreze True Air plug-in. There are three unscented carbon filters to a package, along with three of the timer bubble packs. These filters will do a reasonable job for about six weeks of continuous use. If you want to get the most performance out of the Febreze True Air, go for the Hamilton Beach filters labeled for smokers or pet owners, those work much more effectively and last longer.

Steamfast 1500-Watt Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner

If you've seen any of the promotional videos, NOTE, most of the surfaces are already fairly clean.

Works ok? for lightly soiled areas and small/tight areas, i.e. cracks, joints, small cervices and small flat areas. If using for large areas or medium heavy to heavily soiled/dirty areas plan on spending a LOT OF TIME,(h o u r s), and EFFORT using this product, AND you might still need to use additional products, i.e. soap/chemicals and more EFFORT to achieve the cleanliness your trying to achieve.

PA-E RO-132 Reverse Osmosis Water storage pressure tank

I placed the order for this tank based upon the picture it was the exact tank I was replacing. However, the tank that arrived was not what was pictured! I wanted the convenience of a remove-and-replace tank that fit in the previous location, as it would prevent having to rework connections and tubing. In addition, the air pressure valve was conveniently accessible.

The replacement tank works fine, but it required more work to install as it wasn't the original shape, and I had to reroute the water lines. This is "Amazon.com." It's greatest advantage is enabling the buyer to see what he's buying. There is no reason for the picture to be wrong. Get the picture right!

OSKAR Humidifier

I must be crazy for giving three stars. Here is a brief history of my experience with Oskar Humidifier:

FIRST UNIT. Works fine for one month, then the "no water" light came on even when the unit is filled. (Memo: Do not order from "Wizard Electroland." Seller refuses to reimburse shipping even though the item is defective. Amazon kindly intervenes.)

SECOND UNIT. Order from Amazon. Happy to have my brand new humidifier. Fill gently with water to the exact specified point. Turn "on." Item does not turn on. IT DOES NOT TURN ON.

THIRD UNIT. Order from Amazon. Kind of happy to have my brand new humidifier. It works fine for three days. Then last night at 5 a.m. it wakes me up with a tisk, tisk, tisk, risk sound. Sound mysteriously disappears; I fall back asleep and have bad dreams about humidifiers.

I also must be crazy for ordering three of these, but here is why: It is nearly impossible to find a non-ultrasonic humidifier. The design and size are perfect for my apartment. Cleaning and refilling (the most onerous parts of humidifying) are easy. It is made by a Swiss company (used to mean something) and they have very good customer service. (I contacted them for more detailed cleaning instructions than the manual provides.)

I don't know what else to say. In theory it is the perfect humidifier, but order at your own risk.

Hunter 30190 PermaLife Air Purifier Floor Model

Priced right for quality. Good quality. Make sure if you are smokers, you vacuum out the filters every week. Does a great job on the low setting for about 900 sq ft which is more than specs. Only draw back is the fan noise. Sometimes you notice it, but getting use to it. Cannot complain about how much better the air quality is in the house. Note...if you have a nice tropical plant close by...more it. Think it sucked the life out of mine and I had it for over 15 years.
