24x30x1-merv 12 A/c Furnace Air Filters By Nordic Pure

These MERV 12 filters are a nice step up from the fiber filters you get in the local hardware store. They felt-like pleat really capture the dirt.

This is a huge filter, so it's hard for a piece of cardboard to remain rigid. During the summer when the humidity is higher, I've had the filter get sucked into my air handler, though I honestly think that the fault of my filter port there's no cross beam to provide support for the center of the filter. However, keep this in mind if you're buying a large filter like this.

Not much more to say the filters do their job and you throw them away every month or two. It's not a sexy part of your HVAC system, but it's an essential one.

AC Infinity AI-CFD120BA Dual 120 Quiet Cabinet Fan Kit

Following a home theatre system redesign, space became a premium and in the case of the amplifier, I was concerned about the lack of breathing room even though I created some vent holes in the shelf above.

Subsequent temperature measurements indicated 100+ degrees F which is significantly higher than the optimal ~ 85 degrees F. At that point I started my search and came across the AC-Infinity family of rack coolers. Even though I wasn¡¦t using a rack, I am pretty good at ad hoc mods.:)

I elected the small 2 fan configuration (dual 80) as the most optimal for my application. I rigged the unit with a few wire ties and a push tack on the back of the shelf situate above the amp. Plugged it into the switched amp outout and the results were better than I anticipated. The unit now runs at ambient temperature even after hours of typical use. I cannot hear the fans even when nothing is playing.

Service: 3 days from order to install. Are you kidding me!

PetClean Tower Air Purifier

I recently added three (abandoned) cats to my household. I now have five cats in a small condo.I have 4 litter boxes and use premium litter, zero odor litter spray, scoop twice daily and do complete litter changes twice weekly.

I have a lot more cat hair ,litter dust and lingering litter odor in my home with the additional cats.So I had been looking into purchasing an air purifier to improve the air in my home.

I was excited to see this product in my local Target. The name of the product "PETCLEAN AIR" and the wording and pictures on the carton stating this was an air purifier for pet owners convinced me that this was the unit for me!

The unit is off white in color and looks nice out of the box.It uses replaceable HEPA TYPE filters and replaceable carbon type pre-filters.It also has an ionizer feature that can be turned off if desired. (NOTE: I have successfully used a stand alone ionizer in my cat area in the past so I liked this feature)

The unit has three speed settings.I found the high setting to be very loud.On the high setting this unit blows a lot of cool air...This would be hard to deal with in the winter but pleasant in the summer. It does not power oscillate but you can manually adjust it.I would have tolerated that had this machine been effective. The medium setting is nice and barely noticeable but I feel that it's too weak of a setting to properly clean the air.The low setting is barely audible and very weak.

I left this on high for three days and noticed no change in the scent of my home.I have a small place and used this in my living room (too loud for bedroom) I did notice a slight reduction in the dustiness of my home.

Overall, this unit disappointed me. As a pet owner I was excited to see an air purifier supposedly designed for my situation. This unit does not deliver on it's promise to reduce pet odors in the home. I would not recommend this unit to other pet owners looking to improve the air quality in their homes.

Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04715 Allergen Reducing Filter

Amazon description says this "Fits model 04381 air cleaner." This is 100% incorrect.

I wasted time trying to get their misinformation repaired -including the struggle of attempting to communicate with India on the phone (locale of AMZN staff) - but to no result.

If you have a model 04381 air cleaner, then the filter you want is # 04712. Definitely not the one on this page!

Homedics Ar-20 Hepa Air Cleaner 100 Cadr

I don't normally review products on Amazon; however, I just had to share with you how awesome this product is.

The Bad:

There is little bad about this air cleaner, but it is inconvenient enough that it does warrant one star being removed. First, it doesn't have any sort of handle. Sure, it has a few surfaces you could grab it by, but they don't seem quite sturdy enough. A good, built-in handle would just about make this thing perfect. Finally, the buttons light up. I mean REALLY light up. At night when you're trying to sleep, THEY LIGHT UP THE ENTIRE ROOM. And there is no way to turn these lights off (that I could find). We now have a folded up t-shirt dedicated to forever sitting on top of it so that we can sleep at night with it in the room. Something should really be done about that...

The Good:

I have had allergies for years, and I've always suspected it was because of the cats that live with us in our apartment (I was congested EVERY morning and my eyes itched all the time), but I've never really done anything about it. Then last week I had LASIK surgery, and I decided I wanted to at least try to ease my allergies post-surgery. So I purchased the AR-20 cleaner and set it up in the apartment the night before surgery. The next morning I woke up congestion-free for the first time in years. I've woken up every morning since then congestion-free, and my eyes haven't been itching any. I a SO glad I purchased this before having LASIK. It likely prevented post-op complications!

I highly recommend this air cleaner. Just pick it up at the base, and have an old t-shirt handy.

Hamilton BeachStay or Go Digital Thermal Coffeemaker

I was given this as a gift. I found reviews for it (either the model in all black or brushed aluminum) favorable. Some people rated it negatively because they failed to read any directions and didn't press the "PRESS TO POUR" button on the carafe. Instead they unscrewed the top off and said it spilled when pouring. RTFM You always have to look to see if bad reveiws are due to the user's mistakes and lack of knowledge of the reviewer. They often are.

The two most negative things is...

1. When making a full pot I almost always get a lot of grinds. The problem is that the filter cup fills too quickly and the water level goes over the height of the paper filter. I've tried to find a taller filter, but they seem to all be the same size. Usually I either do a single mug (three 6 oz. cup servings) or the full carafe(10 servings). I can't recall if I've tried 6 or 8 servings to see if grinds are an issue there.

2. the plastic travel mugs retain water between the stainless steel outer shell and the inner plastic shell. UNtil I realized what the issue was, they would dribble (dish/cleaning water not coffee) when I drank from them. I find water gets in between especially after a run in the dishwasher. To get the water out, hold them by the bottom. With them facing upside down wave the mug back and forth (like a pendulum). Do it very quickly and the water will shake out. Once I found the problem, the constant dribble from a clean cup stopped. They keep the coffee reasonably warm for a while. Especially if you run hot water in the mugs before you use them-so they don't leech heat from the coffee to equalize.

3. the Hour/Minute buttons might be too easy hit and change the clock time. They should have a set button. I haven't done it, but that's the only negative.

For singles or a lone couple this is great.

I like the double spout so I can brew one mug, two mugs or a whole pot.

No need to dirty the carafe when I'm making small amounts which is 95% of the time.

The Timed brew is easy to set and works well.

I use unbleached paper cup filters. (this uses a bucket, not the cone shaped filters.)

The coffee bucket lifts out on a loop handle and is easy to dispose of grinds.

The instructions it gave on measures of coffee were good. When I used the instruction on the brand of ground coffee, the coffee tasted terrible. The coffee company said to use almost twice as much ground coffee than Hamilton Beach says.

I've already experimented with Torino's sugar free vanilla syrup, and some ground cinnamon in the coffee bucket add a great cinnamon spice without the sharp taste of the grains of cinnamon floating on top of the coffee.

I've had the coffee maker about two years now. Despite being mostly plastic, I've had no breakdowns. Nothing has fallen off or cracked.

Feb 2013

Coffee maker still going strong. I rarely use the carafe, but the travel mugs are still how I make coffee every day.

Woolite Pet Stain & Odor Remover

Am delighted to find a product which lives up to its label I've been working on old dried pet stains and the spots are being completely removed. Instructions say to spray on spot, wait 5 minutes, and wipe with a clean cloth. I've been brushing it in a little because the spots are so old but that's probably unnecessary. I've treated a couple of the worst twice and am quite pleased to have a spot-free carpet.

Lysol Disinfectant Spray

Like any other Lysol Disinfectant Spray, this disinfects and eliminates oders. The scent puts you in the mind of oranges. The scent does not linger and it is not overpowering. As long as Amazon has it for $4, it is priced right and is the same price I have seen in the typical dollar store. The only better Amazon bargain is the package of the 3 larger cans for $10.

GT50 Professional-Grade Plug-In Adjustable Ionic Air Purifier

I have had my GT50s for several weeks and now feel confident in their operation to be able to write what I hope is a useful comment.

Bottom line up front These are high quality units that seem to do every thing that is claimed of them well. I have not found any competition for twice the price in my searches. So, if you need an air purifier for a small space, look no further than the GT50. I would recommend that you buy them from The Green Giraffe. I have not dealt with a company more interested in making sure that the customer was happy and the product did what it was expected to do! In my experience and having lived all over the world I have never received more concern than from The Green Giraffe! I would rate them 5 stars! More if I could....

I had two problems that I had hoped to solve. We have a cat and her box is in our bathroom. Although it is kept clean, there are times it doesn't smell that way. The other was in my office at the university. Both areas are larger than the 50 sq. feet that the GT50 is designed to deal with. So, I began searching the Internet and began my research. I had read about a larger system on Dr. Mercola's site and looked on other sites where I had previously bought a purifier. I found a review on the GreenTech GT3000 and it looked a lot like the one that was so well recommended on Dr Mercola's site. It met the requirements what I wanted, but was designed for a larger area than those that I needed to purify. So, another search on GreenTech found the GT50. It sounded perfect for the task and it was only $50! So, I ordered two! They arrived 2 days later and I installed the first one in the bathroom. Within minutes of being turned on the air smelled fresh and clean! I did adjust the output to get the most benefit without any ozone odor. The next day I took the other one to work and it worked just as well in making the air smell clean! It seemed to give me increased energy as well.

I did comment on the merchant feedback that I was very happy with the GT50s, but that they were louder than I had expected from previous customer comments that they were silent. It is not that they are loud, but that they were not silent. They sounded like they had a small fan inside which you can hear from as much as 10 feet away if it is quiet and if you are listening for it. I was surprised the next day to receive an email from the owner of The Green Giraffe who was concerned with the sound and asked if I would call her. I called and we had a very useful conversation about the sound and her worries that the product was not operating correctly. She was sufficiently concerned to immediately send out two new units and return label information for the two that I had. They arrived the very next day!!! I replaced the one in the bathroom and monitored it. It made the same sounds as the one it replaced... a quiet not objectionable fan noise. I called her with this news and said that I thought that there was a fan inside, thus the noise was not a problem. In fact, I asked her if I could keep the first two and pay for the new ones that she had already sent. That was arranged and now I have four! The owner wrote the next day and said that she had contacted the manufacturer of the GT50 and they had confirmed that there was in fact a fan in the unit. Again she went far beyond any merchant would normally go to investigate a problem due to her concern with wanting to provide a quality product and customer experience!

One of the new GT50s went in my son's room that despite cleaning the carpet still had the faint smell of cigarette smoke from previous owners of our home. Although this room is almost 8 times larger than the stated capacity of the GT50 it smelled clean and smoke free by the next morning! The other was installed in the kitchen that is also much larger than the 50 sq. feet served by the GT50. The result is excellent!

I will close this "book" by reiterating that the GT50 is everything claimed of it so far and that there is no better place to buy it than from The Green Giraffe! No... they didn't pay me to write this!

Febreze Noticeables Refill

I love my Febreze Noticeable but have to say the worse scent I have smelled is the "Meadows and Rain". I bought it because it was on sale. Other scents I LOVE. The Meadows and Rain I would not keep now if it was given to me for free. It smells terrible! I plugged it in less than 24 hours ago and noticed an unpleasant smell. I thought it was my trash and got the trash out and still noticed the smell. All day I smelled something like a dirty diaper pail. I then walked around and realized it was the Meadows and Rain. It is not a good scent at all. I see why it was on sale and will stick to buying the others.

Environmental Air Sponge, 1 Lb.

Recommended to me by my daughter who was told about the product by her boss. We all have cats, which means litter boxes and associated kitty smells in our houses. This is the ONLY product that has been successful in virtually eliminating the odors. Now I don't have to do the SMELL :) Test before entering my house first when followed by guests. I had been buying the 8oz. size but my daughter again informed me that I could buy the 16oz. size online. I like the product so much that I will continue to use it.

AllerAir AAAir Tube With Metal Housing

Of course we can't know how things would be WITHOUT this air purifier, but it seems (to me) to be helping. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and I'm doing better. Now, we've also recently moved out of a mold-infested home, BUT we now have attached neighbors who smoke, and it's difficult to get away from plastic odors, etc. etc. I feel that this purifier helps. The science behind it also makes sense. I also like the feature where you can turn it down so it's still working but it's not as loud. Even at the highest "setting," it's not obnoxious--like a very small fan noise, I think. It's also very easy to move, etc., with its nice top handle and not-too-heavy design. The circular shape also makes sense to me (to circulate the air), and it's reasonably "nice looking" in our living space.

Bionaire BAP815B-U Mini Tower Air Purifier

I've owned this Bionaire purifier for about 8 months and so far I have no complaints. This month the red check light went on which I assumed was to replace the filter. Filter replacement was very easy. Amazon sells the filters for $25 for a two pack which is a really good deal. I noticed nose stuffiness and allergy symptoms reduced within a month after I owned the product. It quickly removes smoke and other bad smells. I enjoy the 3 settings although I mostly use the medium and high settings. Some people are picky about noise but the medium setting is just a quiet hum and of course the high setting is a little louder but I find it useful for blocking out outside noise anyway. Overall, I think this is a good product for the price.

Original Whirlpool 1183054 Filter

I was lead to believe I was buying a ORIGINAL WHIRLPOOL 1183054 FILTER but what I received was a similar filter with no Whirlbool box or Whirlpool markings or Whirlpool part number on the filter. Filter shipped has a Part number of RFF05503 has no other information on it and the filter itself was packaged only in a clear plastic bag with no product documentation. Makes you wonder where it was made and if is a true HEPA filter. Was I ripped off?

83377 Sears/Kenmore Carbon Replacement Pre-Filter

This supplier, Eurobound4, is ripping off all that buy this product.

When it says one filter, it means one filter. These filters come in packages of 4.

This supplier is buying packages of 4 and selling each filter separately for nearly the price of 4.

The supplier is deceiving all that purchase these filters.

Beware. If they had negative stars, I would have used that rating.

Frigidaire FAD704DUD 70 Pt. Dehumidifier

I bought mine at the local big-box home improvement store. It is used in my heated basement, which I want extra-dry as my firearms and other sensitive items are stored there.

After six months it started making a lot of noise. I checked it and found that the cooling coils were completely iced up, totally blocking the air flow. I let it defrost completely and tried again, with the same icing resulting after a few hours. I checked the manual. which gave "room temperature is too low" as the cause. Doubtful, I thought, but it is winter and only about 60 degrees in here. So I waited to spring and tried again. Now there is no cooling effect at all, and no water output. Obviously the icing was from the cooling fluid leaking, and finally it all leaked out resulting in the total lack of operation.

This is my second Frigidaire dehumidifier. The first had a fan motor failure after six months.

Obviously Frigidaire is no longer synonymous with quality.

By the way, it is not possible to contact Frigidaire customer service by their 800 number. The option for "speak to a representative" results in the computer giving a long-distance number to call. On previous occasions, I have had no luck with trying to contact them via their web site, either. However I tried again, this time requesting return contact by telephone.

This time they actually responded, but by email despite my request for contact by phone. The response was "I would like to offer you a 60% rebate towards a new unit." My response to that was, quoting the manual, "The unit has a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY period during which 'Frigidaire will repair or replace any part in the Sealed Refrigeration System....,' so why should I have to pay 40 percent?"

Their reply: "We apologize we will not be able to arrange service for your dehumidifier. Regrettably, escalating service costs have rendered repairing dehumidifiers a thing of the past as these units are no longer serviced.

Please let us know if you wish to accept the rebate offer so we may assist with issuing a rebate letter outlining details of the rebate as soon as possible. Please also note that not only will you receive the 60% rebate but as an added bonus when you receive the new dehumidifier the warranty will start over again from day one."

I wrote them again, requesting that they honor their written warranty. They replied "Thank you for contacting Frigidaire. We apologize that we are not able to assist."

In other words, they are refusing to honor the written warranty in the owner's manual. I have filed a complaint with the FTC, but expect little assistance since I am just a single citizen.

It is not only Frigidaire's product quality that is suffering....

Update, 06/24/2011: At N. Ha's suggestion (see comments on this review), I complained to the BBB in Georgia, where the Frigidaire humidifier service center is located per the manual. Today I received a phone call from Electrolux about my complaint. The woman said they wanted to "buy my unit back" for the full amount I had paid for it. She refused to call this a refund. However, she said I do not have to ship this unit they are buying to them, only the label with the model and serial number plus my original receipt. I guess calling it a refund might set a precedent. I, of course, accepted the offer and am awaiting the paperwork.

So, it looks like the only way to get satisfaction for the written warranty they have unilaterally decided to cancel for all current and future customers is to complain to the BBB. I hope many will do so.

Bionaire BAP825-U Air Cleaner

I got this unit from Best buy yesterday, so don't look at this as a long-term usage review. It seems like a nice enough unit, but I chose it over the others at best Buy because I read on the box that "advanced motor and fan blade design provide for quiet operation on any speed". Um, they must have hearing impaired people testing these out in the factory, because I can't get truly "quiet operation" on any speed other than low.

I was amazed when I turned it on and could no longer hear the sound on the videogame I was playing at the time. It was on the high setting, so I switched it to the lowest setting. It was much better, but then it's also doing less for me. When on the ghigh setting, this thing sounds like you're running five microwaves at once. I expected nearly SILENT operation...perhaps even "on any speed"? This unit did not deliver what it advertised.

Overall, it's a good product, but they should not advertise "quiet operation on any speed". That's a flat-out lie!

~Mike
