Winix Ultimate Large 4-Stage Filter

Far better than filter originally purchased with the winex machine. Worth the money spent. Update will be made when it comes time to clean and reinstall.

Green Mountain Sumatran Reserve Coffee

This is my favorite flavor for the Keurig. Very dark, rich flavor(but not a burnt flavor). Just smelling it would put me in a better mood. Highly recommend.

Omnipure K2533JJ Water Filter

We had a delivery issue, not the vendor's fault. However, they made it right immediately. If I must make a critical comment, it would be to define the filter connections as well as use the technical names. That will help us dummies.

Berkey BK4X4-BB Big Berkey Stainless Steel Water Filtration System

This Berkey filtration system actually arrives with only 2 filters rather than the advertised 4 filters. This is significant due to the cost of the filters, but the system works fine with the 2 filters provided....the system would simply cycle water faster with 4 filters. Amazon fairly reimbursed us for the 2 missing filters, so I have no issue with where we ended up, but they should either change the product description or ensure that the product is shipped as advertised with 4 filters. From reading other reviews our experience was not isolated.

We are very pleased with the quality of water provided by the Big Berkey filtration system and would not hestitate to recommend it. Our local water is heavily chlorinated and the Big Berkey produces great tasting water from tap water that we did not drink before.

So, if you order the Big Berkey advertised with 4 filters be aware your system may well arrive with only 2 filters, but the system is great and functions very well.

Midea 8K BTU Portable AC

Completely unattractive design that would be ok if it was able to cool somewhat. 8000 BTUs just does not work unless you have very low expectations. The gigantic display is like some spaceship control panel. Very bizarre. Try calling manufacturer's customer service, if you're lucky enough to get someone, it can be quite comical. very very unrecommended.

20x25x4 (19.5 x 24.5 x 3.75) Accumulair Emerald 4-Inch Filter

I was very disappointed in these filters. First they are not 25 inches by 20 inches by 4 inches. They are not well made. They are rather flimsy. They are approximately 3 and 1/2 inches thick. This left a 1/2 gap in my furnace filter compartment that caused an irritating rattle and an improper air seal. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine

When I got my Gaggia more than several decades ago, it was not yet called a Classic. It was called a Coffee Gaggia. About 20 years ago, some minor changes were made, and the unit was renamed Classic. The new "Coffee Gaggia" is not the same as this machine.

This machine has a robust build, and high quality parts. Its tank heats the water quickly, and to a proper temperature, and the pump is powerful enough to do the job properly. I would strongly recommend using filtered water, especially with a low mineral content, so that deposits do not build up in the tank.

My version has an all metal frothing wand, which does as good a job as the skills of the operator will allow for. The newer versions have a "turbo frother," and an optional milk frother that will take the guess work out of frothing and place foamed milk directly into the cup. I can't comment on these newer features, but perhaps they will allow a better job to be done by those with less experience.

The newer models are brushed stainless, while the original models had an appliance enamel finish. Since the old finish allowed water to penetrate under any scratches or imperfections in the finish, this was a particular problem near the portafilter holder and underneath the drip tray. The new version should retain its finish far longer, although the old one still does not show any wear in places that are visible with the machine assembled.

Minor differences are that the new machine has a more robust looking steam knob that was moved to the side, and the thermostat light, which indicated that the unit was heating, has been replaced with a "ready" light that is integrated into the coffee switch and signals the opposite.

In the time that I've had my machine, I've had only minor problems with it. My steam thermostat needed to be replaced once, and the light on my power switch stopped working. These were larger issues before the Internet made it easy to find parts, as these items are hard to find locally. The other problem is that if the unit is not used for extended periods, and the tank is allowed to dry out completely, and the water used was hard, then some parts are subject to clogging. The troubleshooting steps in the manual are not helpful for these sorts of problems. The machine can be disassembled for cleaning by somebody who is mechanically inclined, but unless you feel comfortable with appliance repair, you are better off avoiding the situation by using filtered water, and/or descaling regularly, especially before any long term storage.

The other "parts" issue is that the gasket for the filter basket should be considered a consumable part, and should be sold by every dealer as an accessory, rather than just by repair facilities. The machine really should have included an extra one since this is the only part that will definitely wear out with regular use. It might take a few years or longer, and is easy to replace, but it will wear out.

Overall, this is a well built machine that should last you many decades. Although it seemed expensive when I bought it, it has averaged out to about 6 cents a day to own it, which was well worth the price, and I'll probably get another few decades out of it.

If you have used cheaper espresso makers, you will appreciate the robustness and quality of this unit. Features such as the three way solenoid controlled valve might be transparent to the user, but the lack of them become clear when you use a cheaper machine. This one just keeps going and going.

Miele FJM Synthetic Vacuum Bags and Filters by Filtrete

I got tired of the overpriced Miele bags ( $5 each, to fill with dirt and throw away? really?) and looked for an alternative. The 3m bags are still more expensive than the cheapest knock off bag, but they are the best engineered. Miele's reincarnated FJM bag now features a clapper valve that is supposed to shut between vacuuming sessions. Problem is, once the bag starts to fill, the debris prevents the valve from closing. This allows the contents to spill out when the bag is removed. 3m continues to use the old slide up door that clicks into place when you remove the full bag. As far as operational performance, I can discern no appreciable difference.

16X25X5 MERV 13 Goodman Replacement Filter

These are the by far the best filters I've ever had in a furnace. These MERV 13 filters do an excellent job of filtering the air without restricting air flow. There is a noticeable difference in the air quality and dust levels in the house after installing this filter. These filters are fairly pricey, but for this type of filtering system, and the quality of filter it's not bad at all. Luckily a 2 pack will last for about a year. I am happy with the product, will purchase them again, and would recommend them to others.

Blueair 601 Air Purification System

The product description and independent reviews (e.g., allergybuyersclub) say it all. This is an excellent air filter, quiet & reliable. The improvement in my office's air quality is dramatic. My unit is combating strong chemicals, pollen, auto fumes & cigarette smoke seeping in my window cracks, and occasional thick smoke from controlled burns. With the BlueAir601 on, I don't react to any of it, and I have very sensitive allergies.

SPT Evaporative Air Cooler

I purchased this evaporative cooler to take the edge off of my child's play room. We have a couple other evaporative coolers in the house that work well for larger areas, but wanted something smaller and that used less electrical power for that application. I bought based on price, the 65 watt usage and the louvers. It arrived in good condition and completely assembled. Entirely plastic, but seems well made. Smaller than expected. Likes: the controls work well, nice to have the water level window, does what it should (cools a small room as can be expected from an evaporative cooler). Dislikes: feeding water is time consuming due to small intake hole, louvers dont really do much it rotates and could be a nice feature, but I think the pitch is too low or non existant, so the air mostly goes straight.

Update 1.17.03:

Stopped using when it started to leak. Still works if you put a cookie pan underneath, but I recovered my previous portable AC unit (cooling fins needed cleaning, covered in lint/dust causing it to shut down) and switched back to the AC unit.

Thermwell Prods. Co. AC18H Air Conditioner Vinyl Side Panels

  • Thermwell #AC18H 2PK AC Side Panel Kit
  • THERMWELL

I learned a new word from the previous reviewer: "louvers." My louvers lasted more than two weeks last year, but for some reason they didn't last the A/C being in storage (in a back room of my apartment).

When I went to retrieve the A/C for this season, the louvers on both sides were split at the seams. And, having had the A/C in the window for several weeks now, the number of cracks/splits have increased so that both sides are totally useless (I'm guessing the heat from the sun cracked the vinyl.) I've now got foam side pieces wrapped in plastic on the outside of the windowsill (on both sides) to keep birds out, and I covered the vinyl panels with tons of packing tape to seal it, and then taped more foam pieces over the panels on the inside. It looks like "Sanford and Son," but it seems to work.

Still, I would definitely not buy this product. Perhaps contact your A/C's manufacturer to see if they can provide proper replacement parts (I also had to do some bending of metal clips with a screwdriver to get the panels to fit my A/C.)

But I agree with the previous reviewer: No good.

Amico AP11000 11,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

Works fantastic for my needs but before you purchase please read the following:

I use this unit in a 12x16 bedroom size for an office. I did install it in many areas of the house to see where it would function best in accordance with the specification. First, it is not for a living room where it opens up to the kitchen, hall, other rooms unless you only want cool air and only if the weather is in low 80 degrees or less. It won't cool like you want it to. It's just not made for that, and besides, the product description tells you 400 sq. ft. So my advice for you is to research before purchasing any portable air conditioner because every manufacturer will tell you the size of the room it will be coldest (I know, I own two other portable air conditioners, from other manufactures and they are dead on when they tell you the size of room their unit works best for cold air).

Second, you must follow the instructions that come with this unit (very simple) or else you are doomed and your unit will not work correctly. It does not tell you in the product description that you must leave at least 1.6 ft. (50cm) space all around the unit, but the instructions that come with it does. I wish I would have known this before I bought it because I almost didn't have the space required. If you don't follow this recommendation, it will run warm air; compressor cuts off every 10 minutes and fan blows warm--there are two vents on each side (right/left) and one in back that need that scope. I hooked it up for a day without the correct space and thought my unit was defective because it was always blowing out warm air, but after I shifted to the correct space needed it worked perfect.

All portable air conditions make noise and the 3 different ones I own make somewhat the similar sound. This one is a low humming which I find very soothing but for those of you, who can't bear the slightest sound, you will need to find an alternative solution other than a portable unit, because you won't find silence in a portable unit. The compressor is inside and doesn't hang outside like a window unit; so, you'll never be satisfied with any of this type of unit. I also read reviews from customers dissatisfied with the LED display lights for other similar air conditions. This unit does not have blaring LED lighting but there are display lights which are not that noticeable or bothersome.

The window adapter for the exhaust hose (circumference of hose is 19") is 52" long/tall so you can adjust it to whatever size you need for either horizontal or vertical use which seals the window nicely from outside elements and is very thin--3-1/2" wide. It comes with weather strips to insulate even further.

I purchased this unit because it is 1/3 smaller than other units; self evaporative system exhausts most of the condensate water minimizing the need to empty the internal bucket; it has a remote control; and it has a timer to set on or off. And to my pleasant surprise, it runs cold air to the point of freezing if you allow it to (but remember only in the allotted space recommended for). Another thing to keep in mind is that I ran this unit in 90 degree weather with very little humidity (west coast).

All in all, this unit meets my needs exceptionally well and the following are the desirable features:

1. very good air output; lots of volume and pressure

2. very cold output; even if you move it to a wide-open living room area; cool air is obtainable

3. easy to move around on the coasters that come on the unit

4. all the features that are mentioned on the product description are absolutely fabulous; and

5. this portable air conditioner is reasonably priced

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

They arrived promptly and were well packaged. I havent had enough time to determine if they do the trick, but I imagine they will be just fine for what I need. They are used for my Fellows Air Purifier... which I absolutely love!

3M FAP04-RC Filtrete Ultra-Slim Room Air Purifier

This model is, as of May 2007 the latest from 3M's new series of air purifiers (3M has been making the filters for years, but it's a relative newcomer to the air purifier market). Speaking as an allergy sufferer and former asthmatic, I've had air purifiers around me for years before Sharper Image made the things 'go mainstream' with their incessant advertising for their Ionic Breeze.

This unit works extremely well. The filter is a good quality 3M one that captures pollen, dander, and dust mite debris. It's easy to install slides into a mount in the machine and it moves a large volume of air. (The filter's price is in line with other purifiers in this range.)

Noise in the lowest setting is almost nonexistent, which is a must when you keep a purifier in the bedroom like me. Noise is considerable at the highest setting, but no more than comparable machines.

There are three especially nice features on this model.

First, the slimline case, which comes with a mounting bracket if you want to hang the unit on the wall(!) is handier than one might think. Purifiers have to be 'central but unobtrusive' that is, most aren't all that pleasing to look at but they move air best when in a central location. The slim case and mounting pieces will give you the most options to slip the unit by a bed, next to a couch, etc.

Second, if you (as I do) keep one in the bedroom, it's nice to be able to turn off the lit indicators. Not only is this just extra power going to waste, it also lets you keep the room nice and dark when you sleep.

Finally, you have a setting which detects heavy particle emissions in the air, from smoke or dust. Upon sensing this change, the machine will automatically kick up in speed until the air is clear. A nice feature, though I caution that this is the only option that I haven't tested out yet as I don't have any friends that smoke, and I refuse to burn dinner to test it out.

Update: This feature does actually work; I spilled some talcum near the machine and in seconds it cranked up the setting as it sensed the particles of powder in the air and kept it raised for 10 minutes until the air cleared.

About the only criticism I have of the unit is its high price, though this may come down in time. Finally, if you want to move a lot more air albeit for a slightly higher price I'd recommend the Whirlpool Whispure 510 Air Purifier (AP51030S) HEPA Air Cleaner.

EZ Flex EXPXXFIL0020 Expandable Filter Media 20x25

I paid for regular shipping and I had my filters in about 2-3 days. Impressive. Also my HVAC company would have charged me a bunch more for the same filters. Great service. SHould consider creting an auto ship service to help us to remember to change our filters every 6 months.

Eureka The Boss Cordless Rechargeable Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

I was a bit skeptical about buying this because it only has 3-3/5 volts of power. I had a B&D Dustbuster and it didn't have the power to pick up anymore. I was going to buy a new battery pack for it and found out that I couldn't replace the battery in it. That didn't set too well with me so I looked around for one that I could replace the battery in and I came across this little Eureka model. I have had a big Eureka upright for a long time and I also have a very old Eureka cannister model that still works great, so I know Eureka is good. But I wondered how much power it could have with only 3-3/5 volts. Well let me tell you, it has a lot of power, even more than the Dustbuster. I like the pop up crevice tool also, it's a very convenient feature. The dustbin is very easy to empty and it has a permanent filter that is washable so no extra filters to buy. The charging base is a little awkward. It would be better to have one that it slides into easier, but that's not a big drawback. If you want something to clean up little messes I can recommend this one. I use it all over the house and it's worked like a champ. It's great for those little messes in the kitchen (no liquids though) and also for stairs or the car.

Honeywell HAC504 Replacement Humidifier Filter

Thought I purchased the Honeywell 504HAC replacement filter as listed on Amazon, but instead received a generic version that I could have purchased for significantly cheaper. I phoned the company but got no answer. I emailed the company and got no response. Would avoid any transactions with this company. I placed a complaint with Amazon and hope that this problem can be remedied.
