The item does what it's supposed to do: It filters. It's amazing how much quieter the machine gets when you replace the filter.Doing the replacement itself is a bit of a dirty affair, because presumably the old filter is full of everything you're allergic to, and you have to pull it right out of the machine, with dust going everywhere, before you put in the new one. I recommend doing it outside.
