I bought my Oreck Air Purifier after looking at a lot of much more expensive units as the Oreck, besides being smaller and cheaper, wouldn't require me to spend another few hundred dollars a year on replacement media. After a few hours of operation, I could instantly tell the difference between the air upstairs, where the unit was installed, and downstairs. And after sleeping one night with the Orek, and waking up without my sinuses full, I was convinced.
I don't know what the long-term reliability of the unit is yet, of course. We'll have to see, after a few cleaning cycles. I ordered a can of Oreck's spray cleaner, but I'm going to see if I can't find a common product that does the same thing. I'm not ordering their charcoal filters, as I don't have a big problem with odors in my house (no pets or infants!) or the scent cartidges, as I don't want my house smelling like mulberries, either.
I bought a reconditioned model direct from Oreck, but the dealers selling through Amazon appear to be offering brand-new units at the same price, when shipping is taken into account. Seems like a pretty good deal, if they also offer the 90 day guarentee.
