Honeywell QuietCare 9-Gallon Output Console Humidifier

Is it PERFECT? of course not, but is IS Darned Good. I gave a 4 ONLY because there were some minor things that could have made it better (Most of which you find on the more expensive units) which seems fair enough, you want more "Gizmo's" you pay for them. really I should change it to a 5. My experience has been just great.

NEGATIVE THINGS I HAVE READ HERE FROM OTHERS, That Just Don't Bear Out in First Hand Experience: (I almost didn't buy this unit because of all the nasty things people wrote)

Maybe the Biggest Gripe is "Oh My, It's Sooo LOUD"

I frankly have NO IDEA what these people are complaining about. It is Not Totally Silent (Was that expected?) but even just 4-5 feet away from the unit running Full Tilt, Max Everything I have ZERO PROBLEMS holding a normal conversation or watching TV. (Mine sits right Next to my TV and I have not adjusted the volume from what it was before I started using this unit) The "Noise" is NOT Linear in nature. The unit has 3 fan speeds; LOW lets make sound level =1; MED lets call sound level =2-2.5; and Yeah, HIGH/MAX is sound level =5 (as an example) There is a Significant difference between Med and High, BUT As I Said, NO Problems talking or hearing TV even on MAX. (for the record, I just moved here and had not had a humidifier previously, it wasn't necessary. So This winter season I was WAY LATE buying one and getting started. My house was down to just 15% and I had this unit running MAX Output for a Week as is slowly dragged the humidity levels up. So I am WELL Acquainted with the sound of this device (at it's worst). Just yesterday i got the house up to 47% and set the humidity dial on the unit to cycle on & off (more on this later). It has been described as Airplane taking off, Hurricane, etc.... Either the fan unit was not set back on the unit properly and it's vibrating (see "user error") or These people just got a Lemon ? (return it and get a new one) or they are just gripey people who needed SOMETHING Nasty to say, because this thing just IS NOT LOUD.

Next "Water spills all over the floor"

BUNK (period). I suppose if you are some sort of nut job who throws things around and slams things, etc. you MIGHT be able to make a wave or two in there, but the ONLY water I have seen has been the OCCASIONAL (not every time) drop or two, Never a "Puddle" (And I have ALL Hard Wood Floors, so this is a real issue for me) and the "Drops" came from the OUTside of the tanks as a by-product of filling them in my sink. I now keep a kitchen towel next to the area I fill the tanks and give them a quick wipe before walking back to the unit and NO MORE DROPS. *NOW* With All That Said Given that I DO have hard wood floors and a leak of any kind could be a "not good" thing for me I have taken the precaution of buying a plastic bin I am setting the device inside of. It is big enough that IF somehow the whole thing drained the full max water volume out, the bin can hold that and more. Just Good (and cheap) insurance. If you were wondering? I bought ((Underbed Plastic Storage Container Set of Two (Clear) (6.25"H x 18"W x 28"D))

One of My FAVORITE Complaints ?? "You have to Refill the water too much" or "It uses too much water"

REALLY ?? Just THINK about this one. You BUY a Humidifier to .... Put Water In Your Air --And You Complain about it Doing EXACTLY what you paid for ?? I mean, was the idea you buy a Big Unit to put LOTS of humidity in the air of a large house --and it runs off a thimble of water for 3 months ??? NO, You would only get a Thimble full of Humidity. I just find this complaint SILLY. It's Doing it's Job. On a more practical note, one I have personally been going thru. As discussed above, My house was down to about 15% humidity when I started this unit up. What is More Important was it is NOT JUST THE AIR that is dry. The Walls are dry, the floor, ceiling, furniture, EVERYTHING was Dry, so putting some moisture in the AIR, doesn't solve your problem, the house just sucks it up and your air is dry again, It Takes Quite a While to raise the humidity level of EVERYTHING in the house up before you can have the unit cycle on & off as it NOW just keeps the Air moist. (As I said About, Mine ran for about a full week 24/7 Full Max to bring the house up to a good level. NOW it is cycling on & off (as of last night) where a refill on those tanks will last longer and I wont be filling them twice a day every day (Yes, I know the math suggests I would have been filling 3 times a day, but it just didn't turn out that way. It was 2 or just slightly over 2, but I Never filled 3 times in 24 hours, Not from EMPTY TANKS each time at least. There were plenty of 1 Empty tank and the other 1/2, or 2/3rds empty refills. Now that rate has slowed WAY DOWN and I would expect to maybe fill just Once a day. Later on when the Weather gets less dry I can see this unit lasting Several Days on a single fill.

One lady said the tanks were too heavy. said that "A Gallon is too heavy", Well, 1they are 1.5 Gallons each; 2-a Gallon of water weighs 8 pounds and that is the weight of a new born baby -and babies don't have handles. OK, 1.5 gallons -so thats 12 pounds and we are talking about a 3-4 month old baby now, same thing. Women pick up 3-4 month old babies all the time and they don't come with handles, Plus they Wiggle. So, REALLY ?? Grocery sacks average more than 8-12 pounds unless you are buying nothing but rice cakes and bread. Again, the ENTIRE IDEA is to put water in the air, stop complaining that it's bad, because it does its job.

One "Semi-Ledgit" issue was the lack of Digital controls to dial in an exact humidity level.

TRUE, that is part of what I was talking about at the beginning about "Gizmo's" that were not on this unit, BUT ARE on the more expensive units. Do you Buy a Chevy and say the Chevy is JUNK, because it is Not a Rolls Royce ?? If you want a Rolls, go BUY one. This unit is a Chevy.

However; another complaint was that the lack of the digital controls didn't allow for setting a reliable humidity level. Again, BUNK. as I said yesterday my house got up to where it was comfortable and (as in the instructions) I turned the humidity dial down until the unit shut off. Then leave it and see what you have. (YES, you need to have a reliable temp/humidity gauge. They sell nice ones on here for like 7 or 8 bucks. This unit didn't claim to show you the humidity. You can do it by FEEL if you want, or buy the gauge and know. I was shooting for something between 45-50%. I saw 47 on my gauge and set the dial on the unit. In the last 24 hours EVERY TIME I have checked the gauge it is at either 47% or 48%, and I would call that VERY ACCURATE. I'm going to leave it where it is another week or so till we get another cold snap and see if it holds the level. Once I'm convinced it's right, its time for the Sharpie Pen and put a little Dot or Line on the dial so I can hit the same spot next year. (I't Not Rocket Science)

You can say you don't like the color, the wheels are funny, you don't like the shape, or just say it's Momma Wears Army Boots, if you feel like saying SOMETHING Nasty, but the Bottom Line is the unit is well priced given its market and features and it does its job very well.

IDEA'S?

I found one Great One; that was every time you fill the tanks and replace them, Pop the Top of this unit and flip the filter over. The top edge of the filter dries out as it works and if left that way will, in time, get crusty with stuff and no longer soak up water as effectively. (like if you tried to flip it over only ONCE in its life span, that second half isn't going to work as well) I have found that by doing this the filter stays moist and functional and just works better. (It takes an extra 20 seconds, and it's worth it)

I'm using the bacteriostatic stuff they show as a companion product. Since i have not run it without this stuff I really cant say if it does anything, but it is cheap ($4-$5) and you only use like 1/2 cap full in each tank when you fill the tanks, so it Lasts a long time. What I CAN SAY is I have not had ANY buildup of Funky Stuff in the tanks or reservoir of the unit, and as I said, with the flipping of the filter and this bacteriostatic stuff the filters are still soft and absorbent.

Hope this Helps, I had Concerns when i bought and ended up wishing someone had "Cleared the Air" for me, so I did it for you.

BTW, I have purchased a SECOND Unit and plan to put it in my Upstairs bedroom. (I have no "Noise" Fears) I have a small ultrasonic unit up there now that just isn't doing the job. by itself it could only raise the air from 15% to 20%. Once I got this big guy put to work downstairs I have seen the humidity slowly rise to between 30% 35% which isn't bad given it is only the moisture that manages to make it past the heater as it gets circulated upstairs.

HydrOxi Pro® Concentrate

I got this today and used this to clean bathroom, kitchen floors, etc. and was very pleased with how well it cleans without toxic fumes, etc. is one of the best environmentally friendly cleansers I have come across. The floors are so clean, they look new, Most environmental cleansers sold in stores, etc. just do not clean that well.and the chemical ones have to be rinsed, leave a residue behind. plus fumes so noxious, and I hate putting toxic things in our water supply. This one you do not have to rinse, does not leave anything behind. and just has gentle citrus smell to it. a little goes a long way. I love that it comes concentrated and I can dilute for what I need. I am going to order a gallon of this. I love this! can use it for almost all cleaning needs. is going to take the place of all the other cleansers I've used. so glad I got this. highly recommend it. is safe, nontoxic, a pleasure to use. am grateful to this company, as it is hard to come up with nontoxic cleaner that does the job.

Black & Decker Table Top HEPAFreshTM Air Cleaner BXAP041 3 Speed HEPA Purifier

Okay, so it not THAT loud. It still does not meet its intended needs in my house. I planned on putting this small unit in my mother-in-law's bedroom that she is using while she undergoes chemo treatments. Unfortunately, she is unable to rest and get sleep when the unit is turned on. It is just too loud. She often needs to sleep off and on all day, so it just doesn't work for us.

Two positives, it was easy to just take out of the box and get it set up, and it sits nicely on a dresser or table top.

If the noise doesn't bother you, I bet you would love it. I have been very happy with my larger Black & Decker purifier that I have in my living room. They work fantastically.

Frigidaire FRA065AT7 6000-BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner

I have this unit installed in the bedroom. A very quiet unit, can hardly hear the compressor kick on. Perfect for the bedroom....12x14. The noise is less than a box fan. I leave it running 24/7 and surprisingly does not effect the power bill a lot, seems real efficient. I had to adjust the tilt of the unit after the first install because of a sloshing sound from the fan in the rear of the unit. This was caused by the fan sloshing the water. The unit needs to be nice and level. The buttons on the front are easily cleaned, and the remote is the same way with its flat design. The filter comes out and is cleaned with out any effort. The unit does not have a fresh air/recirculate switch as some of the larger models. From the large amounts of humidity it pulls from the room, I assume its only recirculate. After a few days without any rain in a small room over night, it can leave you with a dry throat and irritated sinuses from the low humidity in the room.

Sanyo ABC-VW24 Air Washer Air Purification System

Product update 1/5/13 Sanyo has discontinued this air filtration system but Panasonic bought them and has a replacement filter for it that FrankieBoy was kind enough to post links to in the Comment section of this review. He has been kind enough to post a link on page 6 of the comments here. The filter is model #6161580870. Hopefully Amazon will begin to carry this soon because the price is pretty steep and Amazon always seems to do better. I've been vacuuming my filter with a good strong vacuum cleaner and that seems to work so far but a replacement will be needed in the future. I love the air cleaner and want to continue using it. A big Thank You to FrankieBoy, for researching and posting the link here!

The thing I like best about the Sanyo Air Washer Purification System (besides that it does a great job of purifying the air) is that it has a nice sleek look to it and doesn't detract from the room decor. It has a handle built into the top, making it easy to carry (15.9 lbs.) and it's pretty quiet as air purifiers go. It has a 4-stage HEPA filter removes 99.97% of airborne particles and allergens. The other thing I really like is that the filters can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and are supposed to last for about 4 years. (You'd want to use a HEPA vacuum cleaner or you'd defeat the purpose.) I called customer service to ask about the price of replacement filters and they told me the suggested retail price is $69. That's pretty much in line with other filters I've researched. The customer service people were very helpful in answering questions about the unit which I count as a big plus.

I don't know if the electrolyzed water technology is just a gimmick or not, but the unit does a good job of cleaning the air and removing odors from any room that I place it in. There are several articles on the internet about electrolyzed water technology and electrolyzed water being used to sanitize water and possibly use it to kill bacteria in a number of applications including using it as a non-toxic way to clean fruits and vegetables in the food industry. It would make sense that it could be useful to kill bacteria and viruses in the air. With pets and all their dander, not to mention all the pollen and dust in the air this time of year, it gets a real workout around here. I hope that we find that we have fewer colds in the winter.

Just a few details that I didn't include in the video: I measured the watts that the unit takes at the low, medium and high speeds with a P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor device. At low speed it uses 4 8 watts (the higher number when it's emitting the electrolyzed water. You'll see that in the video.), on medium 13 17 watts, on high 57 63 watts, and if you use the "power" setting, 63 65 watts. This compares favorably with other air cleaners that I've used in the past or use now and it seems to work more quickly at removing odors.

BTW, another reviewer had mentioned that the "Device contains a chemical known to the state of Caifornia to cause cancer, birth defects, etc." Living in California I'm used to seeing these warnings on just about every piece of electrical equipment I buy due to the "Prop 65" laws here. Nonetheless, when I called Sanyo, I asked about this warning and what part of the unit had the chemical. As I expected it is the lead in the electrical cord connection, the same as my computer. When handling electrical cords it's always a good idea to wash your hands afterward.

I hope the video is useful. It's difficult to tell from a small photo what the unit looks like and I wanted you to have a better idea of how it worked and what it sounds like.

RPS Products Inc H100-6 Humidifier Filter

Item: BestAir Extended Life Humidi-WICK.

Rating: 4/5 (good)

Changing humidifier wicks (for "evaporative" type humidifiers) is a necessary evil and recurring annual expense. It's necessary because after a few short weeks, the hardness in your water will be left behind as a precipitate in the wicks, turning them hard. Also, bacteria and mold/mildew can begin to build up, causing an off-smell and discoloration. These things will occur no matter which brand of wick you buy, so the only essential criteria that matter with regards to buying wicks is:

* Do they fit your make/model of humidifer ?

* Do they have a good evaporation rate throughout their lifespan ?

* Do they maintain their physical integrity (i.e., not fall apart) ?

* Are they a decent value, compared to similar brands ?

In my case, the answer for this brand appears to YES on all 4 counts. Previously, I'd always bought Holmes HWF-100's, but as of this writing these are less expensive. This package includes 6 filters (3 pairs), which in my region is enough to last me one winter season (just over 1 month per pair).

Recommended.

p.s. Terminology nit: amazon, and various vendors and reviewers frequently (and erroneously) refer to these as "filters". They are, in fact, "wicks". Any filtration that occurs happens indirectly, as a result of the wicking and evaporative process.

SPT WA-9020E 9,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

I have central air, but my bedroom upstairs is usually 5-10 degrees warmer than the other bedrooms (vaulted ceiling). This product works perfectly even though the room is much larger than 250sq ft. This portable AC only costs 50 cents a day to run, considerably less than running the central air. It's quieter than I expected and the air is very cold. The only thing I don't like is the instruction manual just not enough info. The exhaust hose must be mounted properly to the outside through a window. All portable AC units create a vacuum in the room and if the exhaust hose is not practically air tight, more warm air from outside will come in than cold air blowing out. I have had it for a week now and it has yet to need the water reservoir emptied.

Crystal Quest CQE-SP-00801 Luxury Shower Power White Massage Shower Head

I live in an area where the city water is loaded with both minerals and chlorine, and so far this is working wonders at taking both of those out of my shower water. I've been very impressed with the difference after installing this. As far as I can tell, it hasn't had any real impact on my shower pressure, which is something that I was concerned about.

It doesn't get five stars, though, because the threads where you screw on the shower head are made of a soft plastic. It was difficult getting my shower head to screw on properly, and it was very apparent that applying any force at all would quickly and easily strip those threads.

It's also important to note that the body of this filter is a good four inches long, which could be a problem if your a tall guy like me. I bought a nine inch shower extension arm from Amazon to compensate for that, and that solved the problem for me.

UPDATE: Changed the rating on this product from 4 stars to 2 star because the thread on the filter that you screw the shower head onto broke off while I was replacing the shower head. This renders the filter unusable. Note that I did not apply any abnormal pressure... this attachement is made out of a very soft plastic that easily sheared off. Although the filter does work well as a filter, this is such a huge design flaw that I would strongly recommend choosing another product.

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Triple 20" x 5.0" Water Filter System

I got this a few weeks ago. At first I was very displeased as the water tasted funny. I had to use a britta to drink my pure water. Butttt after a couple of weeks the bad taste was gone. so now I do have clean clean water. I did loose some water pressure but if you saw my unfiltered water you would say it was a good swap.

Sunbeam Vacuums SBH252 500W Deluxe Hand Vacuum

Original review 09/28/11: Just out of the box, but noted the excellent suction power on the trial run. Bought this pretty much to keep the litter box area free of grit and the tools included will be more than adequate for the task. Worked well on different types of surfaces: the rubber litter mat, the hard plastic of the litter box lid and the motor brush attachment got every tiny grain out of the carpet. Not too heavy, easy to handle, about average as far as noise; love the onboard hose with brush attachment but would really benefit from a wand attachment too so you don't have to bend as often. Attractive design is a plus.

Update 10/16/11: After using this model about once a week/4-5 uses total over the past month, I discovered that when running this unit for about 5 minutes straight the housing got VERY hot to the touch. I called Sunbeam to ask if this was "normal" and I was told that that I needed to call a company called Origins because this is a "licensee product", meaning Sunbeam has allowed another company to use its' name but Sunbeam has essentially nothing to do with the manufacturing or service of this vacuum. Origins has a very unprofessional sounding answering machine on and also states they are a different company called Horizon. Back to Price Pros which is the seller; contrary to stated restock and shipping fees which would have cost me almost the full value of the item to return, they graciously agreed to have the vacuum picked up and replaced at no extra cost to me. Excellent customer service from Price Pros! Hopefully the replacement unit does not experience any further problems but changed the star rating from 5 to 3 until this is resolved. (Will update).

Update 10/31/11: Customer service received the return but the replacement has been out of stock; in this case they allowed a full refund. Again, excellent customer service provided by the Price Pros.

IRobot Roomba 4299 Discovery

I've been a Roomba user for more than 3 years, so I know the benefits of a little automated vacuum. However we had three primary complaints that iRobot has addressed in this new version:

1. Inconvenience of coming home to a dead battery

2. Difficult to clean

3. Noisy

4. Could not focus on dirtier areas; only cleaned randomly.

1. We have gotten into the habit of, as we are walking out the door, putting the Roomba to work. However, we always used to have the problem of coming home to Roomba with a dead battery (inevitably it would die in the worst spots, like under our bed just out of reach). Then we would have to plug him in to our charger (which we had to shell out sixty bucks for) and wait for two hours to use him again. That was complaint one for the old version.

iRobot has fixed the battery issue on the Discovery. The fast charger (which we had to pay for before) is now built in. Secondly, and what has proven to be my favorite new feature of the new Roomba, the little vacuum automatically finds his docking station when his battery is about dead. I do have two recommendations on this note, however. The docking station appears to work just like a virtual wall, Roomba doesn't know that it is there unless it crosses its path, so you make sure that it is in a wide open room where Roomba is sure to cross its path in its waning minutes of power. Secondly, now you have to be extra sure to Roomba-proof the room so that he doesn't get stuck. If he's stuck he won't be able to find his way back to the charger.

2. The new version has gotten much easier to clean, especially the main brush. All the pieces now pop in and out of place easier and there are no screws to remove any of the pieces that need cleaning. This has proven to be a huge benefit.

3. The Discovery is noticeably quieter than the older versions, especially on tile surfaces.

4. The new line of Roomba Floorvacs comes with sensors that can detect dirt. That was the first thing we tested when we got our Discovery. I had pieces of Styrofoam broken into small pieces and it detected it and automatically performed a spot clean on that area. Then I put him in the kitchen where I had accidentally dumped a bag of cereal on the floor and then managed to step on it...Roomba focused on that area and cleaned up every little crumb.

I love my Roomba. I 100% recommend that you get one. I bought mine at a local store in the mall and had to return my Pro Elite version 4 times before I finally got one that wasn't buggy. Then, under the warrantee, after my fourth one went on the fritz I was able to upgrade to the Discovery for free. So far after 2 weeks, the Discovery has been bug-free.

Nevertheless, because of the many issues that I have had in the past, and as with any new and emerging technology, buy it where you can purchase an extended warrantee and easily return defective devices.

Notwithstanding, buy a Roomba. Even though my wife and I never have time to clean our floors have been spotless since we got our Roomba.

I hope this helps.

DeLonghi DCH5090ER Safeheat 1500W Digital Ceramic Heater

Just purchased this (Lowe's $38) and used it last night. I've used various (all ceramic) models over the years and was very pleased with this one planned to return to Lowe's for a second unit and was checking prices on Amazon. Will now be exchanging it for the tower version of this model (didn't realize it featured a multi-function remote) which received great reviews here. The oscillator works well (90 degrees side to side).

NOTE: despite the claim here of an internal tip-over switch (not stated on the carton) this unit will not shut off until the overheat sensor activates. I did not wait for that to occur as I tipped the running unit over backwards, forwards and each side the only difference was reduced air output on its back (since the carpet was blocking the fan's air input) and higher temp setting when tipped forward (as the temp+ button contacted the carpet).

Bottom Line: had I not found a more desirable alternative, or preferred a shorter unit, I would have purchased a second identical unit and been quite satisfied (although careful to reduce tip-over risk).

Saeco Aroma - Espresso Machine

This machine works great, it is heavy duty metal case and does delicious creamy espresso. This machine does not leak like the gaggia I tryed before and for the price it is far the best I used. If you get it from Amazon you will get the best service ever! The water tank on the back is removable to fill and clean, the water retention tank for the coffee drops below is also removable, easy to clean, big enough and of very good quality. The metal grill does not rust and the portafila is solid. Saeco is the perfect Italian espresso lover's machine and it is so solid that it's like it was German made and not Italian :) I checked a lot of brands, models and review and that's from far the best I found for the bucks. I owned fully automatic machines for 10x the price paid here and that one is doing better espresso than any of them... This machine is a hit!

NewAir AF351 Portable Evaporative Cooler

I bought this cooler for my son who has no AC in his mobile home living in the hot Texas sun and it works very well for him in his bedroom to keep him cool at night. It is not designed to cool down an entire house for you, but it works very well to keep an average size bedroom comfortably cool at night. He keeps his around 65 F to sleep. It gets to hot during the day in the mobile home, so he only runs it at night when he gets home. It is not as noisy as his fans were which is a big plus. The unit is a big awkward to move on carpet when you fill it with water, but that can be remedied by bringing the water to it instead and filling it that way. For the money I paid I believe it was a good buy since I had a different unit several years ago which cost me twice as much and didn't work near as well. It was very easy to place the order online and without paying for expedited shipping, I received my order within 4 days in perfect condition. I saw another review someone else left about this unit that was pretty bad and I would recommend to this individual that he/she contact the company and maybe talk to them and see if they can work something out about getting it replaced instead; maybe there is something wrong with their unit. Like I said before, the unit we received, works very well.

Austin Air Pet Machine HM410

I have had trouble sleeping at night with sleep apnea, snoring, not able to stay in bed but an hour and having to resort sleeping in a recliner. I have degraded over the past 3 years. I saw a lung specialst the prescribed me Xoepenex, and Advair. I recently had nasel surgery, cost me about 1500 out of pocket.

After purchasing the Pet machine from airpurifiersdirect2U, I just unwrapped the Pet machine, plugged it in. After a few hours the air in the whole house smelled fresh. We have an 85lb Golden retriever, much more hair than the mentioned labrador from the bad review of this product. The unit came to me with sight bent frame, but operated perfectly. I contacted Austin, and they offered to immediately replace the Pet machine. I told them I was dissapointed, but it was not worth the effort. Austin sent me a free tabletop for the unit. This is one industrial built air cleaner that gets down to business! This is my experience, fantastic! After seeing an allergist he reccomended I get a non-ozone HEPA filter. I looked at many. This one really worked in my situation. No more snoring, I am able to stay in bed all night, occasionally going to the recliner, but the longer the Austin runs, the better I am. I have more energy, I am sleeping better! I have ordered two healthmate Jr units one for each bedroom. The air quality difference is amazing, and we know we have to get the carpet cleaned. The bedroom air compared to where the machine has not been running ( closed door) is astonishingly different, and I cannot stand to be in the unfiltered room. Next job, is to get out the embedded smell from the carpet or remove it. I was able to bend back all the metal after checking the pre-filter after a few weeks of continuous operation. Noting was needed, and it looks like new, plus I have a neat top to the unit thanks to Austin.

More important, it has almost cured all symptoms of my allergies to the Golden retriver, dust mites, Almost everything outside that gets dragged in to the home. i have been able to cut way back on the frequecy I need to use the medications. Looking at the guts of the pet machine, it is truely a heavy-duty air cleaning machine that can clean what Austin claims. Very high quality parts (industrial motor) The unit has quiet operation on low, meduim, and on high too loud for if near a TV and want to her it. On High this machine gets down to business and work awesome. I could not be more satified.

Hunter 44110 Set & Save Programmable Thermostat

The thermostat was inexpensive and does the job as stated. There are four settings per day [presets]. The programming for weekdays and weekends are done separately. It has two overides: one for temporary bi-bass [from one preset to another] or a vacation overide [until you return home]. The only thing negative about the thermostat is that it doesn't light up for easier viewing in dim light or darkness.

Hoover Windtunnel MultiCyclonic Bagless Canister

I had no prior experience with canister vacuum cleaners, so I really didn't know what to expect. I already own an almost new Hoover bagless upright vacuum cleaner for comparison. First of all, the Hoover canister vacuum cleaner has a really great high tech appearance and seems to be well designed and manufactured. The first downside I can see to a canister vacuum cleaner is there are a lot of parts to assemble and store every time you want to use it. I finally decided the best way to store it is to put it back into the original shipping box. So don't throw it away. It makes it fairly easy and compact to store everything. The instruction manual is next to useless. The numbered items were incorrect or missing altogether. I hope somebody from Hoover reads this. It is embarrassing how little was written and how pathetic the mistakes are. So, you've just got to figure everything out by yourself. Thankfully it isn't so difficult.

Now for the good part. With the long hose, you don't have to use so much effort to vacuum the floor compared to an upright vacuum cleaner. The telescoping extension handle has a very novel ratcheting method to adjust the length. I am tall, so I extended it full length, but I think people who are not as tall will really like this feature. And it also helps with storage. The canister is on large diameter wheels and glides around effortlessly. And there is a button to press that self propels the vacuum head, which I've never seen before this. It makes an easy job even easier. I thought that was an especially neat feature. And it does have a very strong suction contrary to what others may say. The vacuum head is thinner than my upright vacuum cleaner, but still it is a little too thick to get under my king bed. It works fine in the kitchen to get under the cabinet overhang. And you can use the crevice tool for the tight spaces. (I thought the crevice tool was missing, but it was hidden in the packing material. So look carefully for all the pieces before tossing the cardboard into the recycle bin.)

It has a very long retractable power cord, great for my open combination living room, dining room and breakfast area. I tried to use this canister vacuum cleaner for the stairs, but while it can be done, it isn't all that practical. For stairs, I use the Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B. Also, I have two Roomba robotic vacuum cleaners, one for upstairs and one for down. I use them for light duty cleaning when I leave the house. But for serious cleaning, my Hoover Windtunnel MultiCyclonic Bagless Canister SH40050 is definitely my vacuum cleaner of choice. I strongly prefer bagless vacuum cleaners. Dumping the container is very easy. And this vacuum cleaner includes a HEPA filter (High Efficiency Particle Arrestor) to keep residual dust from being recycled in the air. I believe this canister vacuum cleaner is quieter than my Hoover upright vacuum cleaner. The noise is quite acceptable and much better than other brands in my opinion. I strongly recommend this Hoover Canister Vacuum Cleaner.

BestAir 1C-6 Humidiclean Extra Strength Humidifier Cleaner 32 oz.

I don't use this product to clean a humidifier but as a cleaning product. It takes hard water off of any surface like you would not believe. I sprinkle a little of this on on get some on a toothbrush. It bubbles and just eats away the hard water. You can then rub it with the toothbrush and it will general vanish.

Love this stuff, I've been using it to clean sinks, tubs, toilets, etc for many years.

16x20x1-MERV 12 A/C Furnace Air Filters by Nordic Pure

I use the 16x20x1 version. Now they don't look exactly like the major brands that you find at Lowes or Home Depot, etc, but they seem sturdy enough and seem to work and trap the same amount of dust, pollen, fibers etc when I change them out. Quality of material used seems to be pretty good too. Has pleated like the major brands as well as what looks like metal grid on one side like the major brands too. I will purchase more when I start to run out again.

Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Washer

I have tested and evaluated 5 rug scrubbing machines in the last 2 years and the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Washer is the latest. Since I have plenty of other machines to compare this unit with, this review is almost writing itself. I have found the Hoover brand to be very reliable for both vacuums and carpet cleaners and had no reason to think otherwise regarding the Hoover Scrub Deluxe.

Did it meet my expectations for quality and easy of use? Read on McDuff!

The Deluxe comes almost fully assembled with just a couple screws that need attaching. Piece of cake, anyone can do it and quickly. The unit is a bit on the smaller side but that makes it easy to handle and easier to store. Having bad arthritis I find the smaller size is better for me, especially since water weighs so much. Less water, less weight. Works for me! Overall build quality is fine. Almost everything is a combination of different plastics, some rubber and a bit of metal thrown in here and there. Made in China of course, but what today isn't? The motor is a bit noisy but that is the case with ALL my carpet cleaners and is to be expected.

Filling and emptying the machine is pretty easy and caused me no trouble. The automatic "stop" function kicks in when the rubber stopper in the tank reaches the top and cuts off your suction, alerting you it is time to dump the tank and refill to continue cleaning. Sounds good in theory but the machine is a bit touchy and simply bumping into my couch leg made the stopper jump up and shut off suction. Turning it off and on again resets the cycle but for someone who is busy cleaning it is a bit of a hassle in that regard because everyone is going to run into this little glitch on occasion. Apparently removing the mesh filter can circumvent this from happening and If you vacuum the item you wish to clean thoroughly before using you should be able to get away with removing it. (picked this up from another Amazon reviewer and sure wished I had seen that tip before I started my tests) I had no issues with the hose popping out during use. In fact, I thought all the parts that you attach were solidly made and attached/detached easily compared to some other brands I have tried.

Between the "spin-scrub" tool and the smaller upholstery tool you can handle most furniture cleaning jobs. As another reviewer has noted the sprayer can make a bit of a mess as the area spayed is a bit wider than what I would like for smaller items although it worked fine on my couch, at least until I got to the ends. You get a starter container of cleaning solution (16oz) and as far as I can tell any brand should work when you go to buy more.

I own a Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 and I prefer this Hoover for easy of use and overall flexibility. Even the build quality is comparable. This Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe gets my carpet just as clean and at $300 less than the Rug Doctor I think that is a pretty good endorsement. It is smaller and takes a bit longer to cover the same area, but for me ease of use trumps just about everything else. Once you get used to the machine you can go pretty fast with it. Recommended as a good value overall.

I ordered these VOC filters along with a new pre filter this time. I don't replace the prefilter as often as I do the VOC filters because we have multiple dogs and the hair traps a lot of the dust & dirt, prolonging the life of the filter. Yeah crazy, but true. So every once in a while I gently tip the IQ over on its side and vacuum off the accumulated dog hair & dirt. O.k. Lets face it. Air filters are a must have for TI (toxically injured), and they're expensive. The IQ and its filters are among the most expensive out there. And the majority of TIs are living below the poverty line, as it is. So, sharing the tip about pet hair is valuable info for TIs. Prolonging the life of the filters makes the investment doable. Is the IQ the best air filter. Yes, it's the foundation of my system. (I have other less expensive filters for peripheral filtration, but this is my workhorse.) Is this filter essential? Yes! Does it work? Yes!

Some of you may balk at the styrofoam housing on the pre filter... Don't. I've a sensitivity to styrene (so I was concerned too) but they address that at the factory and I've never had a problem with any of these filters. I should note I do not like the canisters that have the purafil in addition to the activated carbon. It stinks, and doesn't work as well. the all carbon ones work better.

They are easy to replace, also important for TIs, who generally have very little energy to spare.

Holmes HWF75PDQ-U Wick Humidifier Filter

This filter is just as good as the original. I have been using one of these filters for over 4 months now and there is no evidence of deterioration or mold whatsoever. I will offer two helpful hints to potential consumers: (1) Make sure you use an antibacterial additive in your humidifier every time you refill your reservoirs and (2) Always rotate your filter upside down each time you add water. This will GREATLY increase the lifetime of your filter. Also, the twin pack is a great buy!

Hoover WindTunnel 2 Upright Vacuum

I received this vacuum to review with low expectations. I have bought too many sub-$100 vacuums and they were all junk. The last Hoover I had barely worked. I am not going to spend all of that money for a Dyson, but I have been fairly happy with the Shark Navigator Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner, NV22L that I got last year.

The vacuum arrived requiring minimal assembly. The top handle is inserted into the base, and a single screw holds them together. Be careful when you open the box because the screw was loose at the bottom in my box. This could easily be lost. Once the screw is in, the vacuum is assembled. Pop on the pre-assembled filter/cannister and you are good to go.

The cord itself wraps around cleats on the back (it is not retractable), and all attachments store securely on board. To make this happen, the hose detaches from the bottom with a small latch to detach. On my Shark, this is held in by friction, so I like having the extra latch on the Hoover. There is a long tube with a really long and thin crevice tool. This is perhaps one of the better crevice tools I have seen on an upright. The tube is 13" and the crevice tool is 13.5". The crevice tool stores inside the tube (there is a snap to hold them together), and then the pair stores on the side of the vacuum. There is also a brush that stores on the alternate side.

Additionally, the vacuum comes with a rug beater hand brush for sofas and stairs which stores on board as well (Shark provided one that did not store on board). The rug beater hand brush is not independently powered it uses some of the suction power to turn the beater like many of these models do.

How does it clean? Quite surprisingly well. The carpet beater does a nice job of turning over fibers and has an adjustable height for various size carpets. It is belt driven (not direct), so longevity is a concern, but these things can be replaced if they get too worn. The cyclonic action is very similar to the Dyson models, with a washable filter on the top and quite a generous cup for holding the dust. Amazingly I accidentally vacuumed over a broken half of a pencil. As I went searching for where it got caught in the hose, I found it was in the dust cup. Quite impressive suction. It's not a Dyson, but it's also not $500.

Downsides? The vacuum is quite noisy I mean very noisy. It is also rather heavy. But for under $100 delivered from Amazon with Prime Shipping, it's a really good option. I give it 4 stars not a perfect choice, but quite a good one for the price.

Ionic Silver Cube

This is pricey, but does the job for a whole year, and it does it better than some of the other humifier tank cleaning products. It can be used in any humifier tank.
