Whynter 65 Pint Portable Energy Star Dehumidifier

I own the unit for past one month. It's been working well and took out a tank of water within 2 days. Customer support is there, but they can improve their attitude with customers. I called them to find if the unit switches off automatically when desired humidity reached. They tell me that the compressor stops, but fan will continue to run. That's not the case with my unit. The unit completely stops when the desired humity reached. I don't know if this was designed feature or unit I bought has issue. I sent a note to their customer support. Lets see if they come back with firm answer. I gave 5 stars since it is working and fan sound is much lower than other units I used in past.

Air Oasis 175 Mobile Air Sanifier Purifier

It is really good in car use. I like it very much.

The AC ADAPTOR shows that:"INPUT:100-240V~50/60HZ", but it doesn't work under 220v(in china), I don't konw why.

Will the seller "Amazon.com LLC" solve this situation for me?

Enviracaire 20500 HEPA Filter Fits 10500

Before ordering a replacement HEPA filter for your Honeywell (or other brand) Air Cleaner, be sure to check the model number on the unit. This filter is for the smaller round unit (Model 10500) and for the smaller of the two upright units with handles (Model 17000). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters that wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months, but I check them more often and vacuum off any accumulated pet hair.

20x25x1 (19.5x24.5) High Capacity Pleated Air Filter MPR 1100

Replacement Filters

These are the old fashioned charcoal filled filters. They are no longer sold by us so I expect they are no longer made. The new filters are this thin fibrousy stuff, like some of the prefilters they use in the HEPA air purifiers. When I can no longer get the older charcoal filled filters, I will stop using the purifiers and just toss them out.

Luma Comfort AP400W PureClean Max Air Purifier

I have a Microbiology background so I am picky with my air purifiers. This Luma Comfort model has all the features you need

I picked this up a few weeks ago, just as my allergies started to act up again. I was looking for the best bang for my buck, but with my background I also wanted quality.

What's really great about this unit are all the different filters and UV light. The HEPA seems high quality, and the activated carbon is so great to have I won't go into the chemistry behind it, but it makes a huge difference in air quality. Throw in the UV light, and you have a high end air purifier.

It's nice and quiet on the lower settings, but on high it does sound like a fan running on high, obviously. The only thing I would change is adding a remote control. It would be nice to turn it on from the other end of the room. Other than that, this is a steal.

Doulton Ultracarb Ceramic Replacement Water Filter Candle

For years I paid for bottled water. When I had to start living on my tiny Social Security check, I went to the National Sanitation Foundation's website and compared all kinds of filter systems. The Doulton System, which filters both chemicals and live organisms, has either the exact same NSF rating or BETTER rating than some of the systems out there which cost $500 and up. I have been using it for over a year now, have saved hundreds of dollars on bottled water, and the Doulton filtered water is crystal clear and tastes fabulous. The other reviewer who says the little part broke off the bottom, he must have been very rough with his filter. You do have to take the thing apart every so often to clean off the filter, but I have never had a problem with it breaking. I do admit though, that It is kind of gross to clean it, but you need to do that because the flow of water decreases when the filter needs cleaning. I recommend this system as A+++!

iRobot Filter 3-Pack, 500 Series, 81502

This is a pretty simple product, not much could go wrong with it. I got it and yes installing new filters do make your roomba work better. I also recommend some of the replacement brushes if you feel your roomba isn't like it used to be. You don't have to change sweeper bags on this thing but it does need things to be replaced sometimes.

FILTER FOR CAF665

We couldn't get over how much the manufacturing quality has deteriorated since we last purchased this item some time ago.

The Filters used to be housed (and therefore well-protected) in a hard plastic frame. Now they are merely seated in a decidedly thin and flimsy cardboard shell. Because of this, they really couldn't possibly avoid getting tweaked at least somewhat during even non-catastrophic transit. Therefore no surprise that these did emerge banged-about a bit... minor crushing evident. Probably won't effect the function greatly, but still...

May just be a "perceived value" issue because of the weak construction, but one wonders if the quality of the actual filter itself has not been likewise compromised over time.

Actually, these filters were probably enclosed in stainless steel once-upon-a-time... and have evolved (read: devolved) over time into their current form. Kind of a sad commentary on Stuff. These really could have been better, especially given the price. I don't imagine the actual Norelco Air Clean Air System (for which they are designed and with which they are used) had cost much more than these filters (when added to the Carbon Pre-Filters, which one now actually has to cut-to-fit oneself) do now when we originally purchased that.

Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter

I bought the Doulton Countertop Water Filter a couple months ago and I'm sorry I did. I can't drink the water from it given the ceramic filter continually discharges something into the water that is gritty. My mouth is coated with a film of grit after drinking the water. The ceramic filters, when new, are coated with some type of powder which looks like residue from the manufacturing process and it appears this is what ends up in the drinking water. The directions require a new filter to have water run thought it for 10 min followed by a 24 hour rest period and then another 10mins of water but after doing that and running lots of additional water through the filter before I fill up a glass it still is gritty. I'm on my 2nd cartridge. The first had the same problem but got better but returned to being unduly gritty as I used it more. All in all a grossly unsatisfactory experience.

Cuisinart DTC-975BKN Thermal 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Fussy Lid, but the Best Coffee Maker Ever!, April 23, 2005

Reviewer: R. Wilner (Metro Detroit)

I wish Amazon had 1/2 stars, because I would have given 4 1/2. I almost gave it a 5 star rating, but the lid may bug some people. I will admit that the lid MUST be placed in a perfect position, but how to do it is no mystery. Clearly etched in the top of the lid are the words "Open" "Close" and "Pour." If you put the lid on so that the word "Pour" is directly over the spout, it's no problem. When you go to screw on the lid, just make sure that the word "Pour" starts out over the spout and when it's closed, it will end up there. No big deal. My guess is, the people who have given negative reviews about the lid were impatient with it.

My reason for buying this coffee-maker was the 12-OUNCE thermal carafe. This was one of the only coffee-makers I saw with a 12oz carafe as opposed to an 8 or 10 ounce. This was a huge selling point for me. As someone who nurses a whole pot a coffee a day, I also was attracted to the fact that I read it keeps coffee hot for so long.

I have had the coffee-maker for over a month now, and I am NOT disappointed! I have not had one single overflow incident and I have had no problems. I suspect that those with overflow problems overfilled the reservoir or didn't pay attention to how they put the lid on.

One thing I must share with those of you considering this coffee-maker. One day I made a pot of coffee and I forgot about it. The next day, approximately 36 hours later, I remembered I had made coffee the previous day, so I figured I'd pour a cup and microwave it. Microwaving was unnecessary. The coffee came out STEAMING hot. As if I had just made it! I'm sure the more coffee that is in it the hotter it will keep but this was over a day later!

I HIGHLY recommend this product!

PROS

-No heating mechanism. No burnt tasting coffee!

-Once coffee is brewed, the coffee-maker shuts off.

-Coffee stays warm for much longer than the description states

-The carafe stays cool on the outside. I make a pot and just bring it into the living room with me, or to my desk.

-Very aesthetically pleasing design. Looks great in my kitchen.

-A full 12 cup coffee-maker. A rare thing amoung thermal carafe coffee-makers

-LED Clock/Programmable Timer. Auto Seal. Brew Pause Feature. Automatic Shutoff. Available in different colors

-The water level indicator is easy to see

-The beep letting you know the coffee is done is loud (I like that)

CONS

-You do need to pay attention to how to put the lid on, but it isn't exactly rocket science.

-The digital clock area is tiny. But read the directions and using the timer is a breeze.

-The stainless steel fingerprints easily, but that's not unusual in a stainless steel appliance.

-The beep letting you know the coffee is done is loud (Some may not like that)

Austin Air HealthMate Jr PLUS Air Cleaner

I like its simple design and low maintenence. Although I read several reviews that said it was too noisy, it doesn't keep our one year old son awake at night and it runs on high only four feet away from his crib.

20x25x5 MERV 10 Honeywell Grill Filter

I've never had any problems with these filters until recently. I bought two of them in early December and within the month, both seemed to be having extreme difficulty letting air flow through even though there was no visible dust build-up on the filters. I just noticed that my heater/ac was much louder and running more often and when I checked the filters, there was extreme pressure pulling on them. $80+ on filters in one month is outrageous. Went back to a $20 Filtrete and will see how that does. Seems to be much better for now. Will probably never buy these again.

Frigidaire FRA064VU1 6,000 BTU Low Profile Window Air Conditioner

I can actually sleep with this thing. Has all the usual functions...installed easy peasy and cools our large bedroom very nicely. Love the low profile. A negative is that you can't really see the display, but I can live with that...also the air goes more up than at...which is actually a plus from my perspective.

UPDATE: I have ordered and use two of these now. Both arrived without damage that others mentioned. I continued to be pleased with these relatively quiet units that are less obtrusive and that provide good cooling.

BISSELL Zing Bagless Canister Vacuum

I needed a very compact vac to use mainly in the bathroom to clean up after haircuts. I've been using a cordless model but lacked the power to get the job done to my satisfaction. So, the hunt began for a compact corded model.

I looked at several hand-held units that offered a hose attachment. But, while they would have been fine for counter top work, I would have had to crouch or kneel down to get the floor done. Stick brooms would work fine on the floor, but didn't have the attachments for counter work.

That left a canister. I have several other Bissell products that have worked well, so thought I'd give the Zing a shot. Overall, it's an excellent product considering the price. The suction power is outstanding I'd put it on a par with my Panasonic cannister vac that cost much, much more. In fact, the suction is a little too good it will easily suck up hair cutting attachments if you're not careful. Zero complaints in terms of power.

No complaints as well for ease of emptying the canister (simple trap door setup). Also very much appreciate the fact that all the filters (total of 3) are washable, which will greatly extend their life. It has an automatic retracting cord which is an unexpected feature at this price point. Very compact to store, and cute to boot!

The downsides are few, but should be taken into account. First of all, the build quality is not top of the line. The hose in particular is thin and does not give me confidence that it will last a long time. There is no swivel attachment for the hose connector, so it can get kinked. But, the quality is what you would expect at this price, so I won't downgrade the rating for that.

Also no downgrade for the fact that the power button is the same size and color as the cord retract button. There are icons on each, but they are black on black, so almost impossible to see. Not a big problem, but annoying. Should have been corrected during product design.

I did downgrade the rating due to the noise. It's fine when you're using the floor attachments (a very nicely designed tool that allows you to extend or retract a brush). But, put on a small attachment such as the combination crevice tool and brush, and the noise ratchets up to an almost intolerable level due to all that air being sucked through a small opening. It's tolerable if you're in an open space, but in a small room, it's a real problem. I ended up replacing the combo tool supplied with a standard brush that had a larger opening so the noise would be tolerable. A shame, since the combo tool provided is nicely designed, offering the ability to use both a brush and a crevice tool by just swiveling the connector.

The Zing also comes in two more versions, each being bagged. The bagged versions offer a couple of key benefits, such as an extendable wand, a swivel hose connector, and a bit less noise. But, it comes at the price of having to buy bags, which I hate to have to do. There are two versions model 7100 has a 1.5 liter bag; model 22Q3 has a 2.5 liter bag. Same motor in each, with differences limited to size and the type of attachments that come standard. Curiously, model 7100 is posted only on the US Bissell website; the 22Q3 is posted only on the Canadian site. But both are available in the US. I played around with both of them, and posted a review for each should you want to look at those as options.

One last tip: although I really wanted a bagless model, I also liked the extension wand that came with the bagged version. Bissell sells the wand separately on their website, so you can buy that to replace the wands that come with the bagless model. I found out that the extension wand from Dirt Devil canisters works with the Zing, so I ended up using that (kept the wand after my Dirt Devil died a few months ago).

In conclusion, you have to keep in mind that this is a compact vac for small jobs involving mainly hard floors. It's not something that can tackle a 4,000 square foot house with wall-to-wall carpet. But, as a second vac, or a vac for a small apartment with mainly hard floors, it is a fantastic deal (noise aside).

Cool-n-Save System

2/5/2012: product review updated and rating cut to 1 star today... see end of review.

this product DOES work to increase AC efficiency... there was a Tulane study of it that measured it's heat transfer increase at the condenser at 40% and 70% humidity ... the short story being that there was at least a 70% increase of heat transfer on the coils.

Another reviewer stated that if you have a humidity over 40% this is not effective.... per the Tulane study that is false... this is a water pre mister for standard residential Freon type AC units... it works by wetting the fins on the gas condenser so that the water evaporation increases the condenser transfer to the air... it is not using water as the primary evap mechanism... his statement was correct for water coolant vs gas... just about every house in the USA has gas / Freon so this is a good product for them regardless of location.

So it does increase heat transfer to the air at the condenser by >70%.... this means that if the rest of your AC system is in good shape... air handler temperature should go down (at the exit, not the vents necessarily), the cycle time should go down creating more off time, and the amp draw at the compressor should go down reducing the electric bill in addition to the increase in off time.

This product has two significant flaws....

1 cheap construction.... if you are a capable do it yourself-er... shouldn't be a big deal to maintain

2 susceptible to hard water... not easy to tell how hard is too hard... only way is to try it and monitor for clogs and calcium build up on the fins... if lime away or the like doesn't get the fins clean, take it off... not worth a condenser replacement.

so for a guy who knows what he's doing... it can make a big difference even in a swamp....

AFTER SUMMER FOLLOWUP:

I used this product through Jul, Aug, Sep, and Oct to the 21st with the following result:

1in FPL's South Florida district, over the 3.75 month period, I saved about 28% of my electric bill compared to the pro rata 2 month period of May Jun.... total 3.75 month savings about $410.....

2the jets clogged from hard water and required a cleaning about every 6 weeks

3there was no appreciable build up of hard water deposits on the condenser fins, but it will be an eventual issue

4the base kit was far too small with 3 jets to treat the whole condenser, it will require at least 1 expander kit, but it did a good job anyway

5the flapper valve had 2 defects: it made a loud squeaking sound when running at temperatures below 85..... and it leaked all the time..... this is a major product defect

overall.. .the product works as advertised, but considering the price, the manufacturer should provide a quality flapper valve and make it clear that the misters that come with the kit are only for the smallest installations....... if someone else comes out with a quality product, these guys are going to lose their entire business....

FINAL UPDATE:

Today, the leaking flapper valve KILLED my condenser fan, repair cost will be about $200 doing it myself with no AC on superbowl sunday in south florida with 82F and 90% humidity expected.... The product saved well over $200 in electricity, however the hassle of water penetrating the fan housing (which it mounts directly on top of) is HUGE. Accordingly I'm lowering the product rating to 1 star.... It is a GREAT product theory... but until someone comes out with a quality product and doesn't market cheap garbage like this... save your money and hassle....

Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner

I got this to supplement the window unit I've been using for years and ended up just completely replacing the window unit.

Very robotic design, it stands around 3ft tall and is in fact rather slim once you take it out of the packaging. Came with all the necessary accessories to get it running immediately. Hooking it up and putting the hot air vent where my window A/C used to be was extremely straightforward.

We usually power it up after my daughter returns from pre-school and set the temperature to around 74F. It usually shuts off at about 2am when the room and outside temps are nice and comfortable. The air is extremely cold around the unit and gets a good sized room down to a nice temp really fast. It seems very quiet during the day with all the other sounds and my daughter has slept like a baby ever since we got it. I does emit a low hum when it's cooling but otherwise the fan sound is not noticeable to me. You can turn it on high for a few minutes but after awhile, that's overkill. It does a great job on a low fan setting once the room is almost at the temp you want it at.

I really like the idea of not having to use central air like in our old apartment. I think over time the utility savings will easily cover the cost of the unit. The best part is I can bring it with us if we ever move.

It's worked excellently for a couple of weeks now and I may just end up getting another for our own room.

IQAir® PreMax® Pre-Filter

There is no magical, cheap, silent, super-energy efficient way to REALLY clean air. PERIOD. There are only measured compromises.

The IQAir is the absolute best air cleaner available to the public. It makes a bit of noise, but very, very little for the massive volume of air. It uses a bit of electricity, but it takes power to pump air through such absolutely, ridiculously, fabulously purifying multi-stage filters. THINK about it.

The filters seem pricey. THEY AREN'T. The filters last a stupefyingly long time. They are huge and thick--everything they need to be, to stop greater than 99% of .003 micron particulates, plus the huge .3 micron particules that make the filters HEPA certified. Just try to picture the difference--a thousand times smaller. That's like the difference in size between a b-b and a 15 foot diameter ball (if they exist). If you spend a bit more, you get gas filtering too. Spend a little more and get yourself a cleanroom certified IQAir, if you need it.

An IQAir Healthpro Plus saved my wife and I from suffering while several brush fires over the past few years have lapped at our neighborhood. Before having the IQAir, we both suffered gravely whenever brush fires were anywhere within 50 miles.

After two years of us raving about our IQAir, our next door neighbors (asthma sufferers) sought refuge in our home during the last fire which was a couple miles upwind and within sight of our house. One evening of easy breathing was enough to convince the cheapskates to pony up for an IQAir (and donate to charity their various Honeywell, Hunter and other big-box store joke filters scattered around their house).
